first of all yes i did read the sticky. problem is i dont have a sod folder yet i searched for the files.txt or whatever it was in the sticky theres no such file on my computer. it usualy stops i cancel and hit patch again then i get the sodbin.exe or sodpatcher.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience............ etc etc. i read the sticky still need help! or is there a way i can get that file on my HD to delete. this is making my head hurt please.

1.) MAKE a folder called SoD
2.) PUT your SOD Patcher into your SoD Folder
3.) RUN the patcher
4.) IF the patcher doesn't run, get the .net framwork
5.) STILL doesn't work, come back

I can't patch either.

I read the sticky but removing files.txt doesn't help. I followed the directions above and the patch process looked at/patched the first several files, but it consistently hangs on "generalcommands.html".

I'm doing this on a new computer and I've installed SOD before on the old computer but I'm thinking this is a patcher bug rather than a bug on the new computer. I've turned off Windows firewall and Norton Firewall and am running with a hardware firewall/router running NAT only, just as I was before (but it's a different puter/router.)

Any tips to debug this would be appreciated.

If the patcher hangs, then again delete (since it should be there NOW if you were getting files) files.txt and then go to the SoD patcher, hit advanced, and then Repatch All.

If that STILL doesn't work, there is ONE other way, and thats this file http://www.shardsofdalaya.com/files/PatchFiles.zip

its about 9 megs or so and holds ALL the files for the patch, just simple extract this into your EQ game directory and tell it to copy over all, then use the patcher again or use EQwindow (known as eqw.exe) and just simply use that to connect, but keep on top of knowing when a new patch has come out other wise you will start getting errors, but once you DO have everything copyed from that file I posted above, you SHOULD be able to use the patcher normally.

I downloaded and installed the 9 MB file. But the patcher is still hanging for me on generalcommands.html. Earlier it hung once on populating hashlist but I said to repatch all and it again hangs on generalcommands.html.

Is there any kind of trace mode or verbose mode I can turn on here? This is very strange...I get the feeling something funky is going on but I can't put my finger on it. The regular EQ patcher worked just fine when I installed FWIW.

I'd like to confirm this as well. Getting stuck on patching generalcommands.html Have deleted files.txt to no avail. What ya got for us?

Aha, I think you're right, it's !&)@&(@&! Norton anti-use-your-computer-for-anything. And it took me 10 minutes of dicking around with Norton to get ALL the stuff turned off. What a PITA.

Patching is proceeding, I'm assuming it's going to work. Thanks!

Just to confirm: after de-activating a bunch of Norton Anti-Virus stuff (anti-spam and other stuff in addition to virus detection) I was able to patch and play. I run Norton Anti-virus (but not anti-spam or anti other stuff) at home and it's always worked fine, so either this is a new bug, or it's some part of the newer Norton suite the new computer came with. I had already turned off Windows Firewall but Norton was doing something...

it worked!

Thanks guys i was able to get it working! with the zip file saw it before but didnt know to say yes to all when it copied.

I don't even have Norton and I am still having this problem. I disabled ALL startup programs and still no dice. I manually disabled Windows Firewall and McAffee firewall and still nothing.
