Monk Weight

Is the monk weight limit really 14 + level/10 or is it just 14?

My level 25 monk gets a message about losing avoidance skills any time I get up to 15 weight or above. It should be 16.5 and above.

From the Tome of Knowledge - Information From Wiz post:

Monk weight limit is: 14 + lvl/10

The issue you are experiencing is probably a client/server difference, where they are calculated slightly different.

You're right. It's fairly well known that the cap at 65 is 19.5, and that 14+6.5=20.5, so either the weight limit is wrong, or the tome of knowledge is wrong. It's more likely there was a typo that came out 14 + level/10 instead of 13 + level/10.

Someone (not me) ought to make a level one monk to confirm whether this is a bug or just erroneous ToK info.

Jayelle, please read the posts in their entirety. The OP clearly stated that he was receiving the sod created message that his avoidance would be reduced, which has nothing to do with the client.

Thank you Manguadi for assuming that I haven't already done just that... :psyduck:

Here, let me put in simpler terms what I am saying: the client is interpreting monk's weight limit one way (ie: you get the overweight message), but the server doesn't care because it is calculating it another way, the way described in the ToK/the way Wiz designed it to work.

It's still an EQ client, so why wouldn't he get the overweight message?

ps: I've been known to be wrong in the past, but you do realize that this topic has been discussed a few times in the past with the same conclusion, right? Anyways, feel free to create a monk and test this out if you are so certain otherwise.

This message is generated by SoD code. It says, "You are carrying too much weight! Your avoidance bonus will be reduced". This is not a feature of live.

I believe what you're thinking of is the AC loss that is programmed into the client after 24 weight, the live monk cap. This is a different problem that's being discussed, namely that SoD's messages do not agree with the ToK.

edit:

I'm sorry I assumed your confusion was due to a cursory read and not a lack of information.

Jay, while your guess isnt bad, the weight is actually not differently interpreted. It's one of the things we have perfectly synced.

Sorry! I misinterpreted another GM's response to a similar monk weight post! Since this isn't the first time this topic has been brought up (click, click, click, click), can you clarify what the issue is then? It would be nice to update the ToK post if it is incorrect. :)
