I just started playing SOD about 3 days ago, and due to the busy memorial weekend, I finally got a chance to sit down and play yesterday - but I had quite an annoying issue.
In Centaur Hills, as I was fighting mobs that got low on health, instead of turning and running away, they would freeze for a moment and then just disappear. They were not despawning, as I still had them on target with the too far away or cannot see target errors. I encountered this on about half of the fights that I had engaged in. The mobs would then come back after they had healed up (usually about 2-3 minutes later) to reattack me - but they would not run back up, they would just pop up on the screen out of nowhere.
So now - my PC and network layout...
My PC is an Athlon 3200 XP on an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mainboard. I'm running an NVidia GeForce 5500 256MB video (in case it's video related) and I have just updated to the latest NVidia drivers yesterday. I am running over a network wireless using a Linksys WRT54G router (this has never been a problem as far as lag goes in EQ2, WOW, or Guild Wars - but I was not running wireless when I played EQ1).
I just installed SOD using the Escape to Norrath free download on Friday, and I patched it fully checking all the expansion and optional download packages. I then deleted all of the maps and used the Maps.Zip file on the SOD website to replace them. I then downloaded the SODpatcher and SODbin, and I have been running the SOD patcher in EQW - but not running the EQ patcher.
I spoke to a few people last night about this, and everyone said they were not experiencing the same thing, so I believe the problem lies on my PC somehow. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I could try to help alleviate this problem? The strange part is I didn't have these issues in any other zone as of yet, although the only other place I have been fighting is in the Newpart noobie area, and near the Newport monk guild. I also don't appear to have any lag issues in any zones, but it does seem to be a bit of a lag issue in Centaur Hills. Any help would be appreciated.
