With the assistance of some friends I recently got a Melwin's Idol of Joy. As I am a big fan of lifetaps, this made me very happy. But after using it for several hours I've noticed some pecularities that don't match with my experiences on Live (I know this isn't Live, but that's where my exp with lifetaps come from). On Live, I added tap augs to as many weapons as feasible so I had a lot of experience with how they performed. I don't know if it's a bug or working as intended so I thought I'd ask.
The way they worked there is that the heal portion of the tap was a function of the DD side. If you had a focus item that increased the DD by 10% the heal was also boosted by 10%. If your class has the ability (either naturally or through AAs) to crit the DD portion, the heal would also be doubled when you did crit. If your class received the ability to crit heals, then every time you proc'd you had a chance to crit the heal. If your class received both, then on rare occasions you could crit the DD and also crit the heal. When this happened it had the effect of causing 2x the normal dmg and healing you for 4x the base dmg of the tap.
The thing I've noticed here that has me confused is that when I remove my healing focus item the DD portion of the tap also drops. When I remove my dmg inc focus item the tap, along with the reciprocal heal, decreases as I would expect it to. But the DD dropping when I remove my healing focus has me troubled.
One last thing, after several hours of use in combat I have yet to see a crit on either function of the lifetap. I only had Spell Casting Fury 2 for the majority of the time (just got 3), so I only had a 4% chance to crit and only have Healing Gift 1 which is only 3% chance but after a couple hundred procs I had expected to see a crit on one or the other.
Would someone please take a look at this? Is it working as intended?
