Melee Range Slight Increase?

When a mob chases a caster from aggro or flees from fear because of low HP , I have a very tough time trying to keep up with it. I have no trouble auto-attacking if it stays in one place, only when it moves. ;(

I can live with the problem by playing a caster and either healing or letting a pet tank the monster depending on which character I play as. It does make it very difficult for me to play a melee character and chase a monster down so that I can taunt it off the aggroed caster.

Root helps against yellow cons, but not against red ones. I have a DSL connection so I don't think bandwidith is my issue. I just ask that perhaps the melee range for attacking become 50% longer, maybe while running or so forth.

Thanks for your attention in this. <3

I have noticed this as well. I can be right on the mobs tail but I get a message telling me it is out of reach.

It's based off the client's own calculations, so can't increase it without throwing things out of whack.

Not really. Lag enters the calculations and the client will still most of the time say "You cannot see your target" because it is really behind you now (warping), or it'll give you the out of range msg cuz it hasn't yet really walked to within range. It's wierd. I never had as much a problem with it as when WR implemented fleeing/fear, obviously.

It's just a problem we'll have to live with.

Just a thought though - my mage doesn't give a hoot. His pet autofollows the mob, of course. But I seem to recall DAoC implementing a /follow command (they had a neato /face command to, that turned you to the mob). Anyway, /follow ing a mob, ala DAoC, would negate this problem, at least partially. Could we change the existing follow command to allow for mob following?

That's an idea. Maybe a short duration auto-follow could be enabled everytime a melee player [not pet] taunts? Perhaps have the auto-follow only engage while within a certain distance and have the option of turning it ON / OFF. #autofollow or something for turning on the option?

It would obviously interrupt spell-casting but thus the reason for a short duration. The only reason I can think of turning off the option is if I wanted to root and could do so successfully against the monster. Otherwise, having the option on against red cons would seem more appealing.

DAoC uses the /stick command, where you would actually be stuck to your target, they had /follow as well, but you weren't necessarily close to your target, just like when you auto-follow someone on WR or EQ. /Stick is an awesome command for melees as well as /face; these make a melee's life so much easier.

Wiz can't implement new / commands, and I'm not sure how much /follow is client side. I would also assume that it would take a lot of coding, and would present some problems when mobs run through walls and such.
