I am going to open this discussion yet again, and while I do not expect Wiz to give out formulas, I would love to see some hints/confirms the way he did with the charisma/resists thread.
Given the simple formulas that seem to govern SoD (compared to the complexity that seemed to abound on Live), I am starting the discussion with the following assumptions:
Melee accuracy HAS to depend on weapon skill - I will assume that it does so linearly
It also HAS to depend on offense skill - and do so linearly
First questions - is 1 point of weapon skill equal to 1 point of offense skill when it comes to accuracy? are they just as valuable, or there is a weight modifier for each?
Going forward: melee accuracy depends on dexterity - and again, it will do so linearly.
Second question therefore: - how much is 1 point of dexterity worth compared to 1 point of weapon skill? I cannot imagine that they are just as valuable, because then the effect of this stat will be overpowering
I envision the accuracy formula as something like:
Acc = K * (a*weapon skill + b*offense skill + c*dexterity)
K would be a constant depending on player and mob level, AA's, styles.
a, b, c would be the said modifiers. If 1 point of Weapon, Offense or Dex is just as valuable, then a=b=c, but I doubt that is the case
Of course accuracy will depend on mob's Defense skill and Agility, with the appropriate weights in place, so the complete formula would be:
Acc = K*(a*weapon + b*offense + c*dex - d*defense - e*Agi)
The part where a hint would be very much appreciated from the devs or wiz is:
what is the relationship between a, b, c, d and e? are they all equal? (meaning 1 point of each is just as valuable?)
I would assume that b and d must be equal or very similar, just as c and e should (dex and agi should be equivalent, just as offense and defense should be).
Assuming no styles, no AA's, and a fixed level difference between mob and player (say 3 levels, dark blue con), the usual hit rate is somewhere 55-60%. It almost tempts me to believe that it all starts with Weapon Skill/5 (and therefore a = 0.02) and goes from there depending on the relationship between offense and defense, on one side, and dex and agi on the other...
So to recapitulate:
a) one point in offense and one point in defense are just as valuable.
b) one point in dex and one point in agi are just as valuable.
c) is +1 offense is equivalent to +? dexterity?
d) one point weapon skill is equivalent to +? offense?
Any hints on c and d would be greatly appreciated, since without such hints, no parsing in the world will make this problem solvable. There are simply too many variables to tear apart. I already know the info that is posted on ToK - I am only trying to go further here and understand the beauty of this game's mechanics.
What prompted me to ask for hints? Well for one we already kind of know how AC works, with soft caps at 100, 250 and 500, and with 1500 AC meaning 80% max mitigation and 1/4 of that min mitigation... So it seems that as long as hints don't make the answer too obvious and trivialize the game, the devs are willing to give them out.
Thank you all respectfully - any in game observations/suggestions/comments are welcome.
