This is one of many items that was nerfed by the channeling change, and was balanced around having +1 spell/healing crit chance. My suggestion is that this item be given +5 evocation in place of the +1 channeling to help make it more desirable as channeling in its current form is very underwhelming. The item would still be underwhelming for many classes but this change would help make it more desirable without a full revamp similar to what was suggested many many months ago (I believe it was eisley who suggested it be changed to a shield).

An alternative idea would be adding Casting speed increment 8 or 9 to this item.

I think most are in agreement this item serves little purpose other than a raw stat stick (With the exception of bards who can use it while kiting/vs melee immune mobs) and a cool clicky.

Suggestions and ideas to make this item more desirable are welcome
 
Personally feel that it turning into a shield is a good idea since there is only one shield a cleric can use with their class tome. Seems odd to have a whole class tome bound to one item.

Would turning this into a shield make it secondary only? Because that would be a pretty uncool thing for everyone who currently has a primary/secondary item that then would get restricted to secondary.

Disclaimer: I'm one of those people who is bad and uses this item in primary, completely selfish post.
 
Pretty sure making this into a shield would upset some dudes that carry this item around. (also a selfish post)

Yeah thats why it would probably be better to just add evocation mod, casting speed increment, or just buff the raw stats it gives instead of reworking it entirely
 
As it is, it fits the theme of "tier 13 item that was good and was then nerfed and now isn't tier 13 quality" like most other t13 loots. Working as intended.

The fact that so much highend loot saw massive nerfs year(s) ago and is now on par with stuff 1-3 tiers lower makes it hard to take the game seriously. If you thought certain procs, clickies, effects, etc were overpowered and not appropriate to be in game, that is fine, but most items with those effects were balanced around that, and are no longer appropriate risk/reward after removing said effects and adding nothing.

Its not as if this is the problem of a tiny minority either. Do a random /who all, often 1/3 or 1/4 of the players are t11+

Its pretty disheartening making a thread about any kind of high tier balancing because it is usually ignored. I was going to make a thread talking about thaz loot, and how some things are lackluster and others are too good but decided not to because I figured it would be ignored just like any other thread pertaining to game balance. Maybe I am just a whiny teenager, but I'm sure I'm not the only high tier player that feels abandoned by the devs
 
casting speed inc would be cool, and yay making it a shield would upset a few people. not me, i would love a cool bone shield thing, but some people.
 
There is a primary slot useable /a few primary slot shields iirc. Not a lot, but they are there. We'd have to deal with ugly primary slot shield graphic, but meh.
Making it a shield would only really help Clerics, but would be neat I guess. Anthem is a better fit for what you had in mind though. Bash tome proc + gheal is hard to compete with.
