Maps, and You

So I have decided that there a several maps either not included or missing labels/have extraneous labels. What I would like to do with this post to compile a list of zones that either don't have a map, or have errors in their map. I would like to do this so I can know what to go change, and submit it hopefully to Wiz so he can put it in a new map pack up for download. I'll start off with what maps I know need changed, and update it with what people post.

Mansion of Portals
Tower of Tarhyl
Emberflow Caverns
The Rust

Please post what maps you know have errors.

for emberflow and rust, I downloaded the proper maps from a webby and installed them to sod directory where the other maps are and yet they still refuse to show up> Am I missing something? Maps used were PoI and Caverns of the exiled(solc)

It depends on what layers you download off of certain sites(mapfiend being the one I have used in the past). The Rust map is one I have problems with pretty often. It works about 2/3 of the time. Emberflow worked for me 100% it just has ALOT of extra labels that aren't valid on SoD.

A lot of the old LDON maps seem to be missing one or more layers for me, for example in CoD there are several tunnels which do not appear on the map at all.

Also my Mielech B map is all one layer, and still missing some stuff besides, makes it the worst zone ever to try and run through.

In Obsidian Shard Mountains, the southmost "bubble," where the hill giants are is full of the labels of some old Live settlement.

Xardon's map pack includes rust and is correctly labled, it also has all the new zones up to CC iirc.

Been a little busy trying to tweak the new server properly to do maps, but if Brimz has updated maps, feel free to e-mail them to me and I'll review them.

Some of the maps on mapfiend have live information about those zones. PoE is one of those zones, which was actually really awesome because before I was kos I was able to scout the points of interest that had been labeled and add my own markers for the names. Of course I stumbled across the bear and have only heard about some rhino, but there's something to be said for taking the time to save your current map folder, copy mapfriend's info over SoD maps, and then overwrite those maps with the SoD map pack.

You can remove labels from layers in mapfiend's maps. Some zones also have grey lines, which make them hardly readable ; the fix is to get a decent text editor and load the map textfile, target the hard-to-see color (grey should be something like 125,125, 125) and replace all of it's mentions to 0, 0, 0 (black).

As a new player (who has been off of live for a few years), I noticed that Kelethin has no helpful labels showing where various things are. I didn't really NEED to find the druid guild, or I would have made a house-to-house search for it, but some labels would have been nice.

You are aware that just because there was a druid (or insert class here) guild in a certain town on live doesn't mean that there will be one in the corresponding zone here?

How odd. The SoD Maps I have for Kelethin have all the SoD labels (the only exception to that is the lack of a RNG/DRU Guild label, which I added to my map), but everything else is marked and current/correct.

I made no assumption, but was told in /gu that there was one there, so while I was out exploring, I went up there. I didn't seem to have any labels. Perhaps I'll re download the map pack since someone else said they had labels.

One night I was bored and mapped out the city of Kelethin. Its not a polished map, but it does show everything thats there and its color coded for level. I couldn't figure out how to insert an easy-to-read key, but I have the map here if you'd like to download it and check it out. Maybe somebody can take this raw layout and make something more user pleasing...

If you wish to use it simply open your Maps folder and overwrite the existing files with the unzipped files. Remember to backup your original "gfay" files just in case.

Key (which I didn't have the time to figure out how to include on the map itself)

Black -- bottom level
Red -- middle level
Blue -- top level

Well, in fairness, there does happen to be the same guild in the same place in the same town as there was on live, in this case :toot:

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across sounding harse or anything! I guess I can see how stating what I assumed might not be obvious to the OP might seem out of place rather than helpful. Especially in a scenario where things on live are the same as they are here.

I've still been having issues with the map for Mansion of Portals. It seems that there were no suggestions in this thread about that particular map. On the Wiki it has a link to a text file you can copy into the map folder, but I tried that and still get a blank map (except that the Oggok portal shows up...cool huh?) Anyone have updated info on how to get this map up and running?
