It is a HUGE penalty on a Mage to lose his pet if he becomes charmed, compared to all other classes who emerge virtually unscathed. It is a no brainer not to take Mages to such encounters.

I suggest therefore that Mages be made immune to Charm

I suggest therefore that Mages be made immune to being born in the first place

It is also a HUGE penalty on a BST NEC, and arguably on a WIZ (loosing 4 FT isn't fun), DRU, ENC SHM.

So by your logic, those classes should be charm immune as well, and at this point we might just get rid of charm alltogether.

tl;dr

I do not think this is a reasonable or even thought out suggestion.

EDIT: Susvains solution sounds more reasonable - nerf pet dps a tad, boost spell dps a tad to make up for it, call it a day.

That does not even begin to address the issue.

The problem is the excessive length of time and mana it takes to recover a fully buffed pet.
Even then the likelihood is that you will be markedly worse off by losing some of the pet buffs and (probably) the better pet weapons.

Is it hard coded (if that is a thing) that pets have to poof upon charm? Can it be changed so they just become inactive while the charm is in effect?
