Longtivity of WR

A friend of mine loves to play EQ, but he has one main concern that he's afraid of and that is when he invests alot of time playing WR and all of a sudden WR is shut down due to whatever reason, i.e. lack of funds, pursuing other interests, etc.

Is there any reason for concern? I mean he doesn't want to sink alot of time into his toon only to find out later the server is going to be shut down.

When he really wants to play, he wants to play, not to be shut down when he's really into the game.

How long can WR last?

Comments? Thoughts?

AFAIK Wiz is a young guy. He wont be going anywheres...knock on wood. The server is being pretty well suported via donations(dont stop :( ) and Wiz has HUGE plans.
 
WR's been around for close to 3 years, I don't see us going down anytime soon.
 
I'd laugh if one day a new MMORPG came out and it was named "Winter's Roar", about 20 yars from now from the developer known as Wiz :p lol
 
Well... I know that EQ2 has stolen a LOT of Wiz's ideas (let's face it their is a spy amongst us that helped make EQ2).

(I also remember Wiz saying this all the time and so when I went and tried EQ2 I thought of you Wiz :) )
 
If he has fun leveling up his character, than why does it matter if it goes down... Would you rather have played it and had fun until it shut down, or not played it at all?
 
Actually, if you spend your time leveling up a character, you wouldn't really want to have the server shut down for good on you. Regardless...not everyone has your point of view and some might think that it's pointless to start something you are afraid might not be there when you wake up.
 
The community of WR wouldn't let it go down perm... im pretty sure if it were to go down Wiz would be kind enough to pass the torch to anyone who thinks they could run the server... witch i am sure isn't too easy to do..
 
Like Wiz said, we've got three years under our belts so far and we're only getting more enthusiastic as we get more players.
 
When Earth and Beyond died, I didn't feel sad about losing the amount of time I spent on my character (that's what's known as a "game" and it was "fun") - everyone knew it was coming and I quit playing ahead of time. What really gets me down about it is that I have this CD I paid $50 for and it's useless.
At least with WR you're not paying for the game, you're not investing real money. As I see it now, WR has been around for a long time and is only growing. As long as the donations keep coming in (and they will - $5 a month is so easy for many of us to chip in) this server will be around for a long time.
