Seems like I remember in that other game at one time people noticed kick damage coming from snakes or some other such illogical scenarios.

and yes the teaching snakes to kick one is from way back when snakes were flagged as a class with the kick ability, along with bats in SolB, and they would kick you during combat. sneaky snakes...
