Load Times and Server Location?

Where is the server residing at? The load times is pretty slow, even while I am on cable modem.

I noticed the latency (or ping) is pretty high on the server side, like 700-800ish.

The game plays pretty choppy and I go LD whenever I zone.

I had high hopes of playing, but am disappointed.

Can anyone offer me some suggestions? Ideas?

Thanks

Try messing around with your datarate using the command:

/cmd datarate <number>

I usually use 8. On raids, 6, and filter out most of the unecessary spam. Also, /cmd filter all 1 will turn off fighting animations on raids, lowering lag further.

The lag bar goes like this
ping pl in pl out throughput, the number on the right isn't lag

load times and choppy game play are most likely your computer

Wow I'm immpressed that almost sounds like an old Verant answer...

PC: I can't log on
Verant CSR: You can't log on? Its your computer not our server.
PC: But it shows all the servers being down
Verant CSR: Servers are down? Check your connection.
PC: But I'm talking to you in your chat room
Verant CSR: Our Chat room? Try reinstalling updates.
PC: What Updates?
Verant CSR: ...
PC: What about updates?
Verant CSR: So you wish to download [updates]?
PC: There are no updates
Verant CSR: No updates? ... Oh wait try the servers now Bob had to unplug them to make some a fresh pot of coffee.

You crash when you zone because of your router. Read more about it in the tech support forum.
Lag not an issue with me. Loading times would be mostly client side problems, as all the files that need to be loaded are already on your harddrive. EQ just keeps track of where you are and reports it to the server, it doesnt send you graphics data. Thats all on your side.

"choppy" gameplay would refer to him get getting enough frames drawn in a second, something completely not dependent on the server.. If he said ghosting or warping it could be lag

loadtimes are 99% clientside, that is you will load the zone (your physical computer) slower than the time it takes to transfer the data required to zone

I understand this, just your reply sent me flying back to the good old days of Verrant always saying the problems were on the player's end and hen 2 hours later realizing it was on their's, I'm not saying that his problem is on the Server side or even implying that there are any problems on the Server side, just seeing your answer gave me flashbacks, sorry if you feel offended in any way, was not my intent.

Classic Verent Line: "That's a bug, we never intended pets to use monster levels" - Verent, on necro pets, 9 months after EQ was released.

Now THAT is a Verent classic.

"It isn't physically possible to allow code to open a bag while in the bank vault"

"Consent will always allow the player to loot all but no-drop items"

"It is impossible to allow no-rent items to stay for any amount of time after logging/ld"

"There is no such thing as hell levels"

"Ok there are, but there's no way it can be fixed"

Hmm I'll stop there, too many to list!

My favourite..

"The devs were surprised to find out that shadow knights and paladins were the only melee classes without an auto parry or auto riposte disc...."
from a sony employee, 4.5 years into the game..
(yeah, I can see current devs actually play... /sarcasm off)

Ok, maybe they never said that.....
