live and shards?

I think I know the answear to this before hand but what the hell, here it goes. I play live at the moment and was wondering if I can play on shards without messing up either?

SoDpatcher overwrites some live files, so each time you switch from live to SoD, you'll have to run either patcher.

Or you can install EQ to a different directory and have two versions of it on your computer, one for SoD and one for live.
