Leveling is a DRAG..

I notice this now. I do not like the grind in everquest..but...can't...resist..playing! What are some good tips to level faster? Normally, I can do a couple levels a day, as I'm lazy..

How about instead of straight-up leveling, which you find tedious, you give some serious questing a try?

P.S. of course this often A) involves fighting creatures which give you exp, and B) will give you exp as part of the reward... but that is kind of DUH

You can get experience from tradeskills here too! I got mine retroactively and haven't done much with them since this was implemented, so not sure how much it is etc, but that is another option. :p

I played a few months ago, never got past level 3... It was basically "kill leech, kill leech, kill leech, run from froglok, AHHHH, kill snake, snake snake, mosquito...got boring.

Find a group, visit new zones. Fight mobs that you wipe on once in a while.

And yes, do some questing.

If that doesnt make the game interesting, than I don't think anything will.

If you've ever played an MMORPG, you'll know that leveling is simply part of the game... SoD give substantial rewards for questing (both in items that are great for the level you can get them, and in experience, faction and coin), is the only place I know of where you can gain ACTUAL levels by tradeskilling (I got most of level 21 on my Necro just by doing a completely store-bought tradeskill and it took less than an evening)... Groups ARE tough to find on SoD in general, but some areas are better for it than others. I can tell from the mobs you listed, you probably started in Stinger's Bog (well, in Oggok, and then you went out to Stinger's Bog). I have found a couple groups in that area, but often times you just have to solo.

On SoD, you DO have the option of running 2 copies of the client at one time and playing 2 characters so you don't have to wait for groups. You also have the option of playing a different class than what you started. Whatever it was you started may not be the best soloer, although by lvl 3, few classes really are starting to shine. Necromancers already have a pet at lvl 1 which is a nice boost for them... There are likely other classes that can be soloed as well....

So, there ya go... you can DC (dual client, aka 2box), play a soloing class, quest, tradeskill, or just continue on with the solo grind any time you're not able to get into a group... there really are more options here than there are on most MMORPGs.... if you don't like the array of options available, you probably just don't like the genre of game.

I turned into an enchanter, but I'm having doubts. I've heard great things about them at higher levels, but at low level..eh..squishy

I can't dual box, as my other computer in my room is a really crappy linux one, and the other windows machine is all the way downstairs.

hm, when people talk about two boxing, they mean running 2 copies of SoD off one computer....
if your computer can handle it, it's really not that hard after you do it for a while...

hm

I played a few months ago, never got past level 3...

it takes literally 10 minutes to get level 3. if you aren't willing to exp longer than that, i might suggest another game (seriously)

Um.... chanters are sorta squishy always...

That's not to say they aren't a great class and I'm not even saying they cannot solo... I'm merely saying that if you're wanting a class to stand face to face with mobs and just pound them or blow them up.... um... going with a caster class will not do well for the stand-there-and-take-the-hit sort of play style.

I was questing most of the time. I was doing the monk quest. Also the monk quest kind of DIED at that point, and required the help of an admin. And then of course I kept DYING. So I had ALOT of XP debt.

Uh, your exp debt cannot go over 100%. At that level, it takes between 3 and 10ish kills to pay it off (depending on the mob's level).

And I must agree that if you found leveling to a whooping level 3 a drag, then it's in your own interest to try another game.

I'm still gonna try.

And in that 3 and 10ish kills, you can still get trained. And that seemed to happen alot.

Could you clarify something please? You say that you can get "a few levels a night"... but also that you haven't even got past level 3. That might not be your intention, but it gives off the feeling you're just wanking our chains.

ETA: and from your October 2005 posts, you also played a level 1 High Elf Wizard and a level 2 Wood Elf Warrior... If you really can't stick with a character for more than 3 levels without getting bored, can I again suggest that perhaps, this is not the game for you?...

i'm well aware of that. I'm now sticking with my warrior. I was still getting a feel for the game back then. ANd wanking your chains? I played this on live for a little while before luclin popped up. Obviously, this was SOME time ago.

You can stop trying to get me to quit the game, I'm sticking with this now, I don't need your criticism anymore than you need me whining about leveling. Let's just dorp it. Admin, close this thread, it's pretty much useless.
