level 54 cleric pet

The level 54 cleric hammer pet, first of all, adds a great amount of DPS power (about 30 ish dps, which on top of a battle cleric w/ yaulp v and ancient hammer gives about 80 ish dps depending on mobs ac) and I appreciate its implementation. However, because this pet literally has about 100 hp, is unhealable, unbuffable, and pet commands do not effect it's actions, it dies practically ever fight.

Now, anyone who isn't actively playing a battle cleric (healing, auto attacking, yaulping, attacking with pet) may be thinking "whats the big deal, it costs practically no mana summon another one." Well, sure, but when I XP (raid too) I use all of my spell slots and simply don't have room to keep the pet summon up. Again, one would think that I could just drop a spell and get the pet up and then replace the pet spell with whatever I need it for. Well doing this after every mob (xp grp not raid), basically every 30-40 seconds max, is not only annoying; it preoccupies me from healing, also from fulfilling my title of "battle cleric" by removing me from the first 20-30 seconds of a 30-40 second fight.

My suggestion would be to simply allow a cleric to buff his/her pet. Allowing me to toss an Aego on my hammer would completely resolve this situation and would do nothing but prevent us from having to drop a spell, get the pet up, summon it, drop the spell, get the other spell up and then hope the mob isnt dead before we can attack.
Thanks for reading.

Position yourself a bit behind the mobs before you send in your hammer so it's attacking from the back. I rarely have my hammer die unless the mob either has a significant damage shield or it's a caster that AOEs.

basically every 30-40 seconds max

You can only summon a new one every 2 minutes. =P

I'm well aware I can only summon one every 2 minutes - thanks

Also as for positioning, like you said, is hardly useful when you have *anything* other than a purely melee mob

As far as I know, buffs that affect the HP of the target don't work on any pets, ever. And yes, wizards have the same problem with "Sword of Xuzl" It dies in 2 seconds, but, considering we're not even pet classes, I'm happy I can even get a little flaming sword.

I believe the cleric hammer is supposed to be just a short little dps boost, not anything thats reliable...sort of like a mage's pet mafia...

Ya, gee lets think. I do like 100dps. Cleric's main job is the heal and then to be able to do sustained 80dps (which I know is an exaggeration anyway - Ive parsed a few) is pretty silly. It has no hp for a good reason. Balance.

I find the cleric pet can last quite a long while. As long as you don't sick it on rampage mobs then all you really need to do it make sure your MT turns every mob. I can lose a pet every so often, but it's nothing as bad as what you portray. On the other hand, I exp almost entirely with the same tank who knows how to turn quite well.

This post isn't to discredit what you're saying by any means. I'm just offering my input because I almost always use the pet.

Here's a possible solution:

Change the effect of the Cleric hammer pet spell to summon an item (NO RENT) that has the following effects:
  • Summons a Pet Hammer
Reduces caster's mana to match or surpass the cost of the current spell.
    Same or longer recast delay.
Make it clickable from inventory. [/list:u]
It would help clear up the spell slot issue, but it does screw with the 8 spell limitation which is an essential part of gameplay strategy. Tweaking the recast delay and the mana reduction effect could help balance it out though.

The spell is fine as it is. If you think the DPS boost is nice, then you can sacrifice a spell slot for it.

Also, what are you possibly using all 8 slots for? I have a free spot almost all the time, and that's using two DA spells memmed. I don't even use HoTs anymore, so I could pretty much stop memming that, too, leaving me with 2 empty spots.

(A) If your in a grp send your pet attack on the mobs 90% and he wont die ( works 95% for me).

(B) If your soloing your pet wont die cause you do more agroo whit summoned hammer and if your cool u have divine rage aa for more proccing.

So the A situation works like this i use my bard as tank when i dou i let him hit down the mob to 90% and then i send pet attack on the mob and my bard doesnt really do good agroo ( aka im not slowing im only useing 1 dot on 63 poison fyi ) he stands there and hits and has a 62 ds :D .

Well There is no need to change the pet at all well look at eql clr hammer pet it disaperes every fight after the mob dies so i was really happy that it didnt on sod.

This is the drawback of having an extremely cheap pet, you have to use tactics to keep it alive.
