Leeching Servant

Hello forums, this is a post about the second necromancer class tome Leeching Servant. This tome gives your pet a chance to mimic your lifetaps, the exact percentages unknown (I recall it being listed as 20/40/60/80 at one time). When the necromancer's final pet was the Relic, melee pet this was a fantastic sounding tome that essentially added the ability for your pet to pop a free nuke. However, with the introduction of the Runic, caster pet this tome loses it's appeal for two main reasons. First, the caster pet already has Ancient: Lifebane in it's spell list making this tome extremely redundant. Second, the caster pet is unable to cast two spells simultaneously causing this tome to result in a DPS loss when it causes the pet to cast and mimic the spell instead of maintaining it's current DoT rotation.

Since this is a class tome aimed at improving the necromancer's pet I think that it ought to be changed to something that is beneficial to both of the pets in the necromancer's arsenal (even if the Runic pet is superior on virtually all accounts). I interpret it's intended benefit to be either adding a DPS boost to the pet or by adding some survivability to the pet in the form of a chance to lifetap. For your consideration I offer two alternatives to the current form of this tome, one that aims to improve the durability of both pets and one that aims to improve their DPS with a minor durability increase.

Runed Bones: Carves strange runes into the bones of your minion, granting them 20/40/60/80% of the benefit of your Mind Shield, Stun Resist, Spell Ward, and Damage Reduction (a maximum of 8/16/24/32% Mind Shield/Stun Resist, 4/8/12/16% Spell Ward, and 5/10/15/20 Damage Reduction. Assuming you have them all capped)

Skeletal Symbiosis: Improves the effects of Companion Health/Strength and allows your pet's to receive a minor benefit from your Spell Casting Fury, Combat Ferocity, and Combat Agility AAs. Perhaps a 1/2/3/4% increase in Companion Health/Strength (Raising the focus benefits to 40.4/40.8/41.2/41.6% with Health/Strength 8) and a 15/30/45/60% benefit from the AAs applied to the pet (.9/1.8/2.7/3.6% spell crit with rank 3 Spell Casting Fury, .75/1.5/2.25/3% chance to hit/dodge with rank 3 Combat Ferocity/Agility)

did they change the runic pet since it was put in at all? last time i tried the pet it was going oom way too quick and it just seemed better off having relic pet with cita weapons, silks, collar in just about every situation. i used it on Earth Terror though!

maybe the mimic can be a proc tap instead of the pet stopping to cast a tap.

The Runic pet gets the benefit of your focus effects and FT if I understand correctly. It also benefits from spell FT and worn FT so if you get your pet a hit of your ancient haste on it (since it has mana regen) and a FT stick from a friendly mage the pet can keep mana up pretty solid; especially if you are in defensive stance and it is casting conservatively. I personally parse the caster pet higher than the relic pet, but it does occasionally need some down time - more so if it does not have caster appropriate buffs. I do see the appeal of the Relic pet in situations where your pet will not be hammed by AoEs since it does not suffer from any down time related to mana and does not need to be able to lifetap to survive, which is why I tried to include suggestions that would be beneficial to both.

being the only casting class that doesn't use JB i really hated the idea of worrying about it for a pet. and everytime it dies you have to ask for another one. be nice if Lich went to pet too or if the pet buff had mana regen in it.
maybe i'll play around with runic some more but i rarely have a problem with AE's on Relic pet.

both of those ideas seem pretty good though if it was going to be changed

Oh, I'm badly mistaken about JB, you want to use the Ancient, just looked it up in the spell parser and it gives 30 spell FT to the pet, whereas JB is only 18. So that detriment isn't even a detriment! So assuming you are running WoN your pet has like 38 spell FT.
