i would love to see a way of gathering hides similar to mining , you kill an animal you normally get hides from like a wolf , cat , bear , hopper etc , equip skinning knife , target corpse and right click knife , like mining with the pick , have a seperate skinning skill , like mining for smithing , youre skill determines success based on the type of creature , and you get different hides , meat , guts , sinew etc depending on skill , i know it means no right clicking corpse for looting those things , but you have mining , so i thought that skinning would be fun , deffinatly something i would love to see , no more farming wolves for 3 hours for a stack of hides for tailoring .

I'm not sure how your system would alleviate the need to kill a few dozens of wolves to get a decent amount of skins?...

Keep in mind that mining takes a long time. It is not fun nor quick. It is tedious and boring. If anything, the extra clicks of a skinning skill would make it even more tedious than mining, IMHO.

Skinning is a skill on WoW, it went along with their Leatherworking trade. Which, I have to give them credit, makes sense. Tailoring, which is silks and threads; is a totally different skill from Leatherwork, which is of course skinning and tanning hides for use. EQ2 even has a path you can take in Tailoring that makes you better at Leatherwork, if I recall correctly. Just goes to say, someone who works with silk and thread wouldn't all of a sudden become an expert at leather and vice versa.

Skinning was tedious on WoW, but not as tedious as mining on both WoW and SoD. It just involved an extra click to skin the corpse before clicking to loot it. Not that big of a deal, and makes tons of sense. The better you are at skinning gives you a better quality hide. Not like on Live where the quality of hide was random and based off of absolutely nothing, which never did make much sense to me.

I'm all for skinning being implemented down the road. I say down the road because adding a new trade, Leatherwork, to the already existing Tailoring that needs a revamp is going to take a lot of time and effort.

So maybe someday in the future on SoD we can skin a hide and how good we are at it will effect what type of quality goods we can make from it.

Sorry to be a little off the subject, but fletching and pottery need revamps much more than tailoring. In my opinion, blacksmithing, jewelcrafting, and tailoring (in order from best to worst) are rather well off compared to fletching, pottery, and, to a lesser degree, alchemy.
