Leather for the Tank

I personally would like to see some more plate/chain armor drops. From what i've seen by farming many different zones with my lvl 60 mag/bst duo about 90% of all armor drops are some form of leather. Not an exageration. In blackburrow for the lowbies regular leather drops very often while chain and plate seem to be quite rare, especially plate. moving on to warrens you got soft leather.... albeit a nice upgrade for most noobies... but still, the only plate or chain drops are plain plate and plain chain. moving on to bancak, Skulkers leather armor. Barely an upgrade to soft leather if at all, and only a couple of classes can use it if i remember correctly. I just recently went to Dreadfang to farm some stuff up and explore.... guess what i found.... Gnoll leather armor.... yes more leather in a 55+ zone. Now dont tell me im not looking hard enough. those are just a few examples. but if all of that different types of leather armor can drop randomly off trash mobs in those zones.... why cant plate or chain armor of the same quality drop by similar level mobs. seriously. Who in the world wants to play a paladin/sk/warrior/bard/cleric in leather armor. Its pretty pathetic. I've seen plate drop of named mobs. but why should someone have to camp a name for god knows how long to get one peice of plate armor equal to the quality of trash mobs leather drops. I'm sure many will agree with me here. If they dont then they need to share the knowledge, i've searched these forums, and the wiki and only things for plate armor is quests/named farming. All i ask is to implement some kind of plate armor that those plate classes deserve. Tell me why would there be so much leather. If you can give me a good reason other than "it's how i want it" or "those drops are prefectly fine for a tank to wear".... cant see a warrior wearing the same armor as a wizard or a druid. And pretty much forcing them to have high level toons to farm plat to buy decent plate armor for a noobie they want to make isnt the right answer. Regular vendor plate is not the right answer either. I feel very strongly about this, so i'll appologize in advance if this post seems like a mini-flame... its not meant to be. I just really want to get my point across in the hopes that those deserving classes can wear the armor they were made for. and not have to work twice as hard as non-plate classes. Thanks for your time

my guess is because of the way EQ (and by extension, WR) works.
Leather can be worn by almost anyone.
By virtue of the way this game works, a 10 AC peice of plate doesn't mitigate damage any better than a 10 AC peice of leather, so whether an SK or a BST wears it, they are both getting 10 AC.
That way, chain and plate alternatives do not have to be made, added to the database and the loot tables.
Just makes it easier to deal with.
If I had my way, each piece of visible armour would have mitigation properties dependent on its type. .9 for plate, .5 for chain, .2 for leather and none for cloth. Then it would matter what you wear and what you can wear.
But it's not going to happen. AC is AC here.

What i'm trying to get at is the simple fact that a tank wearing leather just doesnt fit. Maybe its just aesthetics but when i see a tank in leather i want to vomit. I understand the whole thing about the loot tables and how it would be more work, but if for nothing else, the roleplay value of platemail for those plate classes of ALL levels *is* entirely important. The idea of each type of armor mitigating dmg depending on its type, i.e. plate, chain, leather, cloth, is good. Thats how it works in DAoC. Just how hard/tedious would it be to change the graphic appearance of some of these drops so tank can actually feel like what they are made to do and not have to wait till higher levels to obtain said armor?....

Okay, i'm just saying base on my experience, as well as the experiences of some people i know and have spoken with that there is more leather than plate or chain. Maybe we are all just unlucky at the same times. I'm sorry for dragging this out and i dont mean to, it's just that i think there should be plate equivalent to soft leather, skulker's leather, and gnoll skin leather, with slightly higher ac for tanks so they dont have to skimp on the stats for ac from vendor plate while all the caster's get more benefits than raw ac. Hrmm.... i think i said everything i did in my first post... just shorter

Lots of plate drops..... in meilb off of level 40-45 mobs, long after you wouldnt wear regular plate.
Great plate for low end DOES drop in first ruins, shrouded, etc, and can be obtained at level 27+. Theres bone armour with a plate graphic that drops in yaralith. obtainable at level 17+ or so. Very, very poor stuff, though.
I have not, however, seen regular or slightly better than regular plate drop in any kind of similar capacity anywhere.
I assume this means I wasn't in a spot to see it while leveling.
HOWEVER, it just doesnt matter, as AC is AC, and leather was fine with me, and regular plate was a few plat off thw vendors. Seel a few shields from the froglocks, and you got yourself another piece of plate :)

Unless the Class traits are changed dramtically in WR from EQ your Beastlord can't wear chain/plate anyway..

What does my playing a beastlord have to do with anything? I also play a mage... and a paladin/shaman and a bard and a necro.... has absolutly nothing to do with *My* beastlord.

Yer post started saying duo bst/mage.

either way I am finding since your post and such that I am stacking chain down one side of a bag and leather down the other with very lil difference in the frequency of the two.

I've seen a lot of cloth and leather drops for very low levels. I know there are chain drops and plate drops for Medium -> Higher levels because they are constantly auctioning Lore and Magical armor sets.

The drops are there as Wiz says, just start alternating what you're hunting. Save money if you have to and buy the pieces you want until you're able to farm them.

Normal chainmail drops off of kobolds in the warrens from time to time. So far I've seen a pair of gloves, a coif, and a chain shirt. This is at about lvl 15 that you can start killing them easily. Also there're low level nameds I've seen dropping plate it was blue to me at 19 and the drop was fairly nice, silvered platemail greaves and a silvered platemail breastplate. Only sad thing is that there seems to be no market for items like that.

Heh... I know you've been trying to sell them for a while Ciar. I think with Plate on WR, the fact that it's so Heavy and +Str gear is hard to find until mid to end game, so it's a waste of effort. With fully empty bags I'm encumbered by 20 stones with Full plate.

Hmm how's this sound? I'll sell you a set of +str jewelry for 20pp two rings and two earrings, will give a +8 to your strength. Or if you want to wait a while as I try to find the money to put into crafting could get you better sets of it. Ask around, a set of platinum amber jewelry will give you +28 str.

Only big deal on that is surviving long enough to farm that... With my encumberence farmings become rather trying.. hehe. How much does a set of platinum amber go for? 28 STR would end my encumberence problems and let me cause enough extra damage to make farming much easier.

Well, depends on the vendor - someone is selling jewelry in the Trading Forum...

STR set gives 12str and only cost 30pp

Not quite sure on the going rate for a set of it but it shouldn't run you more than 200pp for it probably a good deal less since amber can be bought from a merchant for cheap. But keep in mind that plat diamond combos go for about 200plat or more a piece.

Hmm.. only at 18pp at the moment and my wifes at work to grab the other 2.. give me sometime to do a bit more farming for plat to get to 20, then I'll buy a set off of you, I'm in Erudin and mistwoods training my piercing and dual wield skills.

Great, I'm in mistwoods right now, should be on later tonight, I'll toss you a tell in game once I've got it crafted.
