Laptop Vista Home Prem freezes

i have a 2gig cpu.. 3gig ram.. laptop. I have recently reinstalled to factory and then reinstalled eq. Did the maps eqpn sodbin replacements. The game will load and can get to character selection but when i select a character the game freezes. The drivers for the computer is updated. I have tried with eqpn and without. i have tried with eqw and without. The same thing happens.. it freezes on characters. I have tried different accounts to the same effect. I can cntl alt delete out, so it's game affected somehow. I have tried different settings for display. Before i reinstalled the comp and game i could even box but then i had been infected which led me to reinstall. I'm i have disabled norton and have allowed the firewall to let eq thru. Not sure what else to do or any other info i should give but would really love to fix this, as anyone would. I am having withdrawls ;p.. thanks one more thing.. it's a dual core... which i have selected the bind at 1

Nope not a spam bot. Just someone that has, if i had any, pulled his hair out trying to figure out wth is wrong
 
Might be a video driver issue. If you reinstalled to factory, you lost whatever video drivers you might have had set up before.

Might even simple be that the video settings you're setting for EQ is not one your video card can use. Make sure the video setting is correct, and that the resolution you pick is one your card can handle.

If I remember right, the EQ client does require Direct X 9.0c also.
 
Is it an nvidia card? There was a rather serious bug on live that would crash the game out after certain things. I believe the bug was with 7600 model GeForce cards, and it would crash with an error message about having the latest drivers, even if you had the latest drivers.

I'm sorry, I can't remember the EXACT workaround for it, but it definately involved getting newer drivers (after a few driver updates, nvidia put in specific code to deal with just that), so if you've got an nvidia chipset, I'd look into that problem.
 
Sorry for the slow response. just got back from taking son to ear doc. ok.. the video card is nvidia geforce 8200m G. I have changed the video setting from 1280 x 800 i think it is.. and 1024x 768 and both do the same thing. I have turned all the graphic stuff in game to the lowest. I tried not even loading the newer character graphics. As far as drivers go.. Do i have to goto Nvidia to get em... or is not the windows update not the same. As far as Directx.. i am on 10 which came with Vista. Ill be checking back more frequently now that i am free.. Thanks for the help so far.... Ok.. DLing driver from Nvidia now. If that changes things i will post again that it worked... Ok, even the redownload from Nvidia didnt fix the problem at all. Same situation occurred

Ok. I'm largely out of ideas atm but the last thing I can offer is: do you have some kind of firewall going?

You can get past the character select screen but then it locks up. The char select screen I *think* is communicating on a different port than when it actually loads a character.
 
firewall was turned off. I still am unable to figure out ANYTHING that could be in the way. I do appreciate the responses to help me. Thank you for those who have replied

Are you using a router? You could try to connect your computer directly to your internet connection and see if it does the same thing.

I wouldn't have it connected like that for long, but just long enough to test it.
 
I had this problem when I got a new computer. If your firewall is off ALSO make sure you turn windows defender off. Or if you have norton internet secutiy it has a built in firewall.

It will most likely be one of the two I listed above. I had the same problems with vista home premium.

Oh thank you so much. lol.. now i just have to figure out what i can turn back on for secure comp. I'm thinking it was defender that was the biggest problem. I reinstalled the comp 2 times and the game 3 times just cause i was craving my addiction. Thank you again everyone for your assistance in my progression.
