Laptop Cooling Pads

I am in the market for a good cooling pat for my 17in hp laptop. Currently when I play SoD it heats up considerably, especially when I'm 2boxing. I have this Targus piece of crap and I really need something better. Any suggestions?

I also play on a 17 incher.

This is what I use and it kicks major ass. I used to get overheating problems when playing L4D and TF2, now they're history.

It's quiet, owned for about 6 - 8 months now, and only had to clean it once.

Don't expect them to drastically decrease your comp components temps, but do expect them to keep them a few degrees cooler. Another thing that has helped, is to keep all items around my laptop further away so that it gets more ambient air flow and the fans that do circulate air do so unobstructed.

I have a little plastic thing for my laptop to sit on. In the height of summer, it occasionally isn't enough, and the best solution is probably to just prop it up in back and point a real fan at it. I use a little pink one.

The key is to give it space for air to circulate underneath. Just get it off the table or your lap, really.

Yup, u could make your own custom cooler with an old fan and some kind of support with an open bottom. It would probably be about 30 times more effective than any commercial cooler, but it also wouldn't be as aesthetically pleasing. It's a trade off. I actually am sitting by a 10" fan I used to have blowing into one of my hotter running PC's any time the ambient temp of my establishment rose above 80 degrees.

Infact, even in some IT rooms you can find nice home made cooling units. For example, I have heard (from sources I will not disclose) of a multi-million dollar PC using a wall of smaller (cpu I believe) 120mm fans to circulate air. Why they used a wall of smaller fans instead of one big one? 1) They were cheap and had many laying around 2) If any one fails, the circulation of the room continues (whereas if the one big one failed, the PC may have to be shutdown to avoid overheating -- which would be very bad. 3) Cheap and easy to maintain.

I used to use an empty cat 5 box I had cut holes in the sides...it worked great till the black cat Rick James wrecked it. He was like "F*** your box!!"

Now I got the Targus Laptop Chill Pad - PA248Y01U for 20 bucks.

It does a good job but is known for crappy wiring. I had to ghetto rig mine by removing the on/off switch that was on the cable. Easily fixed with electirc tape and wire stripers.

Apparently where the usb/ac plugs into the unit may also go bad if care isn't taken. That would take some soldering to fix.

I wanted to get a cooling pad as well, it does get hot as hell playing SoD.

Unfortunately, as I was in Japan, and the cheapest one at the local retailer was like $100, I passed. Could get the same one at Wal-Mart for like $20!

So my advice is don't get one from Japan.
