Just new and have a few questions

I have a friend who plays EQlive and it looked a bit interesting, so when i found out there were free EQ servers i decided to give it a go. I have played other MMORPG's and have found a few distinct problems I have had in them, I would like to ask a few questions so I can be sure Im not about to start something that I may end up not completely liking. Im sure some of you can understand that.

Ok, first, I would like to know if I would be able to solo or play with a small group of one or two other players. The biggest thing for me with other games is the lack of good groups (basically groups that dont gripe every few minutes because of slow leveling...thats so annoying. I quite FFXI cause of that. But from what I have read here that dosent seem like it would be a problem, but one can only know from experiance), groups that arent full, or lack of people to group with (area is empty or people are not within your lvl range) in the area you are in. Being able to solo when I want or with a few other friends I may make at my level would be ideal for me.

Second, how are drops and such? I wouldnt mind working for any items and such, but not taking two or three days to make a menial sum. Getting gold and such in games where you have to divert your complete attention to the task in order to afford one item kinda takes the fun out of the game.

And third, would I be able to download EQ anywhere? I have the cd's myself thanks to my friends who can afford to play EQlive, but I also have friends who would enjoy to play here but cant get their hands on a copy of EQ. There was once a downloadable trial for EQ at the official site, but its no longer available. Any help in this area would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Depending on when you play, groups on WR can be hard to come by. Solo xp can be had if you play a class capable of it. If you don't want to be restricted by these boundaries I recommend you two box. Levelling is faster than live but as the FAQ states, it's not necessarily easier.

WR is full of customized gear and decent stuff can be obtained as you level. There are also many goods available from auctions that are well priced (read: doesn't cost several thousand plat like live). Easy quests exist and you can obtain harder ones as you level. Tailoring and Jewelcrafting are in as well so there is another source of easy to obtain gear from the playerbase.

As for your third question, I believe such talk is banned in these forums(someone correct me if I'm wrong). You're best to search elsewhere for it and not ask here again.

You won't have great trouble making money for spells, but money isn't super easy to come across.

Ok, thats answers some of my questions. When I play I was planning on being static with one of my friends, if I they can get a copy of EQ that is. What classes would be recommended in a duo for good leveling?

a few very viable options - it's all about what you like to play:

Cleric+Warrior
Shaman+Rogue
Shaman+Ranger
Necro+Mage
Wiz+Mage

you get the idea. Mix it up with casters or have some combo of healer+melee. Obvious 'easy' combos exist, but on wr you'd be amazed what you can get away with.

Perhaps the best suggestion would be to play a few chars each and see what playstyle you prefer.
