Joining SoD- A class question

Hi there, I wasn't sure whether to post this question here or in the class/gear forum- if I've posted in the wrong one, I apologize. Anyway, I am about to begin playing SoD (installing now,) and I was wondering what classes are most wanted for mid-end game play. I've always been flexible in my character selection, though I tend to prefer melee classes or hybrids over pure casters. Given that limitation, which class would you say is the most demanded in groups? One side note- I played a Monk in live, and if they are wanted I'd be happy to play one again. So, are monks in high demand? Or, if not, at least useful end-game? Thanks in advance,

Bishop

Monks are good DPS and usually can find a place well, DPS tends to be more in demand then Tanks from what I have noticed so far.

This is both true and untrue. There is more room for DPS classes in a group or raid than tanks, since the average 6-man group will consist of one tank, 1-2 healers, 0-1 CC classes, and 2-4 DPS classes. However I see far more groups formed with sufficient DPS looking for a tank than vice versa, at least at the 65 exp level.

As for the endgame, you don't raid without a monk in 90% of raid zones, but most guilds will only keep one active monk because of the 18-man raid limitation, a second monk adds little but DPS and there are many classes that do that better.

So then, it sounds like Monks are decent enough at finding groups, and that DPS is always in high demand. I'm also a big fan of tanking, so if tanks are well sought after, I'd be happy making one. So, between SK and warrior, which would you reccomend? Thanks,

Bishop

If you EVER plan to raid, I'd highly recommend to not make a tank unless you plan on founding your own guild.

Sad but true.
A VAST majority of our 2nd tanks just start new chars because either they are not needed, either they are always... 2nd. There will always be one main tank per guild, and gearing him is such an effort that people will prefer botting him forever when the player leaves than gearing up a new tank for that purpose...

Go with SK. They generally hold aggro better than warriors on the low end, and on the high end, you still have valuable functions as a group tank, and several raid abilties.

Warriors are very one-dimensional, so if you aren't going to 2box, you may be bored.

A Shadowknight won't tank quite as well, but are the 2nd best tanking class and will still be very hardy, while bringing some utility to the table with their FD ability. In addition, an SKs lines of spells help them to keep aggro insanely well, at the same time affording them the chance to solo occaisionally with DDs, lifetaps, etc.
