Jenrok Quest Combines Balance

Haenir

Dalayan Master
The rewards for this quest seem out of line w/ their difficulty to obtain (which adds to the difficulty in convincing people to go try to obtain them). I'll discuss from a rogue point of view because I know rogue gearing better than for other classes, but they do seem a bit lackluster overall. Maybe this is just bad information on the wiki and the loot is already changed?

First the bracer:
Brace of Energy

Rogues of the tier to do Jenrok are probably rocking one of the following in their slots:
Wrist: Bracer of Tearing Strikes / Strands of the Severed Fate / Undying Loyalty / Bracelet of Blithe Treachery

Here is how the bracer compares to the other options (+/- would be what you get by using the Jenrok bracer vs the other option):
Bracer of Tearing Strikes (abyss)
+1 ac +25 hp
+5 str +5 dex
+10 sv magic +10 sv disease
+12 piercing
-2% aggression

-5 sv cold -5 sv fire
-10 1hs

Strands of the Severed Fate (sharn'ree)
+9 ac
+35 str +20 dex +10 sta +15 agi
+15 sv magic
+12 piercing
+2% crit strike
+type 2 aug slot

-10 hp
-25 int -25 cha
-5 sv cold -5 sv fire -5 sv disease -15 sv poison
-49% haste +3% aggression
-10 disarm
-type 5 aug slot

Undying Loyalty (rujik)
+14 ac
+34 str +19 dex +9 sta +14 agi
+10 sv magic +10 sv disease +35 sv fire
+12 piercing
+2% crit strike
+type 2 aug slot

-30 hp
-15 sv cold
-1 double attack
+6% aggression -5% stun resist
-duration increment 8
-type 5 aug slot
-targeted-hot/self-dot clicky (can swap to use)

Bracelet of Blithe Treachery (spires bracer)
+11 ac
+23 str
+10 sta +3 agi
+10 sv fire +10 sv cold + 10 sv disease
+12 piercing
+type 2 aug slot

-12 cha
-5 sv magic -15 sv poison
-10 backstab
+4% aggression -2% stun resist
-damage increment 7
-type 3 aug slot

The main gain from the item is +piercing and +str however both of these stats are generally already capped (or within range of cap through buffs) by the time you can get this bracer -- and the loss of double attack / 1hs / 49% haste pretty much makes the bracer only a viable replacement for the spires bracer on a rogue which doesn't have HM custo sword.

Given the difficulty of acquiring the Jenrok item I'd really like to see one or more of the following (because then it would be worth getting and using!):
  • +1hs instead of +piercing
  • more hp than the spires bracer
  • -aggression
  • Nightblade's Ferocity as a worn effect (2% bard-style haste)
  • Super Acumen as a worn effect
  • +1 or 2 dual wield, offense, or double attack instead of +piercing

As for the bow:
Ravenclaw

Rogues of the tier to do Jenrok are probably rocking one of the following in their slots:
Back: Shroud of the Ambitious / Standard of the Vah Shir / Shroud of Misery
Range: Stone of Bilous Hatred / Undying Loyalty / Jhylith, Droplet of the First Rains

Here is how the bow compares to the other options (+/- would be what you get by using the Jenrok bow vs the other option):
Shroud of the Ambitious (spires)
+10 hp
+10 str +30 dex +20 wis

+40 sv magic +5 sv fire +5 cold +5 sv disease
+2% crit strike
+type 4 aug slot

-44 ac
-10 sta -10 int
-40 sv poison
-15 throwing
-2% stun resist -2% mind shield -2 damage reduction
-10 bane vs reptile/amphibian
-type 5 aug slot

-splurt clicky (have to swap to use now)

Standard of the Vah Shir (vah quest)
+20 hp
+5 str +50 dex +20 wis

+30 sv magic
+4% crit strike
+type 4 aug slot

-50 ac
-20 sta -10 cha -10 int
-5 sv fire -5 sv cold -5 sv disease -5 sv poison
-5% stun resist -5% mind shield -5 damage reduction
-type 5 aug slot
-vah clicky (have to swap to use now)

Shroud of Misery (abyss)
+20 hp
+8 str +25 dex +8 cha +5 wis

+40 sv magic +5 sv cold +5 sv fire + 5 sv poison
+1% crit strike
+type 4 aug slot

-40 ac
-12 sta -5 agi -25 int
-25 sv disease
-5 conjuration
-5% aggresion -5 damage reduction -48% haste
-companion strength 8
-type 5 aug slot

Stone of Bilous Hatred (saitha)
+35 dex +2 cha +2 agi +30 wis
+40 sv magic +5 sv cold +5 sv fire + 5 sv poison
+1% crit strike
+type 4 aug slot

-40 ac -40 hp
-5 str -18 sta
-35 sv disease
-5% stun resist
-acumen
-9 bane vs ancient race

Undying Loyalty (rujik)
+5 hp
+19 str +49 dex +20 cha +30 wis +19 agi
+30 sv fire +5 sv disease +5 sv poison +40 sv magic
+4% crit strike
+type 4 aug slot

-25 ac
-20 sv cold
-1 double attack
+6% aggression -5% stun resist
-duration increment 8
-type 5 aug slot
-targeted-hot/self-dot clicky (have to swap to use)

Jhylith, Droplet of the First Rains (sanctum)
+20 str +25 dex +20 agi
+5 sv fire +5 sv cold +5 sv disease +5 sv poison +40 sv magic
+4% crit strike
+type 4 aug slot

-50 ac -10 hp -20 atk
-25 sta -5 cha -30 int
-11 bane vs dragonkin
-3% stun resist
-healing increment 7

As you see the consistent gain from this item would be dex / sv magic / crit strike... all of which are much less useful than what you lose from the other options. The only item I would consider replacing with this would be Vah back to make it easier to swap between the different vah clickies.

Given the difficulty of acquiring the Jenrok item I'd really like to see one or more of the following (because then it would be worth getting and using!):
  • affliction enhancement 7 or 8
  • a rogue version of the item -- something like "Infested Trap Kit" -- which is an equipable (with stats) item w/ a "Set Trap" clicky
  • bane vs young race (would have to not be a bow for it to work as non-weapon bane iirc)
  • less crit strike and more of anything else (seriously I've been 10+ overcap on crit strike since like tier 5)

I wonder if they ever increased the proc rate of the Ranger bracer to make it better than a Bracer of Tearing Strikes. Slaar said he was going to but fomelo never reflected the change.

I agree that these quest rewards were never balanced for their difficulty. Jenrok's loot that he drops was also pretty terrible for the time investment.

Basically the healer shoulders are awesome for their alteration mod. Ranger bracer (if it was buffed) is alright. Shaman's bracer might finally replace the Dawn bracer (Relgon's Radiance). Everything else was not worth the effort, unless I missed something.

You might also want to add that the bow doesn't have a graphic and it has no range.

Also, hopefully you know your logic on "proving" these items to not be very good is broken. Your main problem, is that they haven't make new content in the game for far too long. The bracer could very well end up to be quite good for rogues if they introduced new gear that were upgrades yet lowered your piercing mod a bit.

Bango got his Jyre on January 2012... Let that sink in.

The first Blazewind kill was October 2011... Five years later...

jenrok boots are ok for a bard if they don't have a rohk diamond and can come to terms with losing 50 int from taesh boots. jenrok ring is good for wizards. end of story on his loot rest is suxzorz.

quest combine wise the only items worth getting are the shoulders and shaman bracer, and maybe peacegiver. (unless the bard bracer has some crazy proc rate)

fun fact it had 4 flowing thought on it to begin with before slaar put his bear paws on it

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the boots. They are pretty good for bards since they can't kick.

I haven't played in so long my SoD memory is no longer set in stone. Sad times.

I also forgot about the +cold ring. That could possibility be alright future Ranger loot if they ever came out with a new AE item.

The monk ring also isn't too bad since monk jewelry lacks STR and DEX since the "buff".

Jenrok loot/quest combines could possibly be good if new endgame loot was ever introduced. The jenrok caster arms would be quite good if they had a t5 aug instead of a t2 aug. I dont ever see the robes of the caretaker being good unless BPs are reworked entirely (maybe if the item had Greater Soothe as a worn effect that worked as overcap recovery). I think the jenrok loot thing has been done to death though, and I dont see it changing unless new content is released

I honestly hope that is the case. Though I kind of suspect it is more a matter of few people having these items so balancing them hasn't been a priority. Btw, does anyone actually have the shaman bracer?
