IRC Connection

I don't know how to use mIRC, and therefore I do not know how to connect to the Shards of Dalaya IRC channel. I used to just click on a link on the front page but seemingly with my cell-deprived brain I cannot see the link anymore. If anyone could point out the link on this new homepage, or walk me through the steps to connect manually, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Great, that is what I needed.

However, you know what 'Unable to connect to server (Software caused connection abort)' means? And how would I fix that?

Are you trying to access IRC via work or college? You would get that type of error if your connection was port blocking. If not, try turning off your virus scaner. Mcafee for example has been known to cause this error (Open VirusScan Console. Double click the "Access Protection" Task. Uncheck the "Prevent IRC Communication").

If neither of the above work, see the below link and quote:

IRC Connection Problems

"Ping timeout" or "Connection reset by peer" or "Software caused connection abort"

If this happens just once in a while, don't worry. The network connection between your client and the server got broken, it happens. Some people using Windows seem to have particularly unstable winsock, welcome to the wonders of Windows. The actual error message is not very informative or even reliable, and there is no fix beyond making sure Windows is up to date with the latest patches. Note that pinging a server will have no effect for this problem. If it's happening repeatedly or only when you visit certain channels or talk to certain people, then you may be the victim of a denial of service attack (better known as "getting nuked"). Don't immediately assume something evil is going on, though, since the vast majority of these disconnects are due to natural causes. Try using different servers/ports, or avoid your usual nickname and channels for a while, see if the problem goes away.

And last but not least, here is another link with more advanced tips on troubleshooting that error.

I am, I am - currently utilizing university internet access. Other then asking the university internet gurus to unblock the port (I assume 6667), is there a way to be able to do it myself?

However,
I only have Norton Firewall, and I did in fact try to disable that already.
And if that nuking stuff applies to me, it sounds much too complicated just for the ability to chat in a different way.

But, I do assume it is the blocked port.
