Perhaps it would be possible to link the OOC channel on the server with some IRC bot and have the two channels shared, that way you could be online and talk in IRC easily and you would not have to be online to talk to your friends who were online. Just a thought

You can join mIRC from in-game instead, that's like the same, only the opposite.

Yup, while in game just type "/join #wr"
Or why not while on irc "/j #wrchat" (same online) that way you have your own chat channel on irc and online for you and your friends.
