In regards to the faction MOTD

Having aquired the Grobb Gate neck, I got it with no problems, and being an ogre, never harmed Grobb faction, but see no viable way to raise it. They do not like me there, but I do have the neck, what should be my/our next step to still be able to use the necks?

The faction required to use each port neck is based on the faction which gives it to you. The Grobb port neck isn't based upon all of the factions of Grobb, so as long as you maintain standing with the faction which gave you the neck, you can use it.

If you could get the Grobb neck and haven't ruined your faction with Blackscale since, you're fine. The level to use it will be based on the level needed to get it, indif or so in case of the Grobb neck.

How about us enchanters who used Collaboration to get the newport neck, I'd hope it would work from amiable+ or so (since u need ally to get it in the first place).

Hm, that's a good point, although amiable seems excessive.

I got it both on a bard and monk using sneak... what kind of selection is there of faction quests?

I got mine using Ambassadors writ and I was the one under ally for Qeynos.. I think warmly. Either way I worked long for it and would hate to raise it more! :D

Might want to take into account the use of Illusions + Carillion/Alliance/Writ to complete the quests as well.

Thats how I turned in my Grobb neck.

I have no problem raising the needed faction, but I just wish there were more access to quests/mobs to do it. Or in the case of Grobb, any. (to my knowledge)

Just my 2 cp...

Speaking strictly from a RP perspective, I think the ports should work regardless, and here is why.

The port items are a reward to those who have proved thier alliance to a particular cause/faction. A high ranking official in each of several cities gives out a key to the city gates to those who are considered trustworthy. Sometimes this official errs and gives access to a spy, a traitor, or someone who just is not trustworthy. When this happens they have given an enemy easy access to their home, and they can't just change the locks because all their ally's have the same key as well.

Basically they trusted the wrong person and end up suffering the consequences for it.

As far as my personal RP goes...

I could get the grobb port item without hurting my newport faction (in theory) if I had someone who was already kos to newport kill the mob for me that gives bad faction. A quick illusion and I would have access to grobb, and with a bit of luck, dubious faction as well. As tempting as this is, since a shortcut to Mielech would be convenient, I can't quite justify it since my character would never kill an ally of newport. On the other hand, a particularly dishonorable spy might secretly kill an ally in order to gain the trust of the enemy, then turn on the enemy after they have the access they need.

I cna justify swapping between giant and dragon factions, as they are both rather violent races which my character dispizes. I don't mind slaughtering one this week and another next week depending on which one suits my needs at the time. From their own perspectives, even if they don't trust me due to past crimes, they would still be willing to work with me and arm me for battle when ever I appear to oppose their enemies.

After all, governments in the real world frequently ally themselves with (and sell weapons to) their enemies simply because it suits their purpose at the time.

They aren't "keys", they are magic items that let you into the city, because you have done various (and tedious) things to earn their trust. They hold the power to the magic of the necklaces, and can give it (and take it away) when they choose. If you don't keep up with their expectations/lose their trust, they revoke that magic, and you need to regain your standing. With some factions, you cannot "flip-flop" between them, once you are kos, you cannont become non-kos.

When I did the Grobb gate neck quest the npc told me if I killed some people she would give me a necklace that had a magic ability to gate to Grobb. I did as she asked and got the neck. Then while hanging out in Kaladim some of her buddies looked at me wrong so I offed them, that's how I roll. At that time in the game there were no repercussion for doing so. It was a magic item I earned with no strings attatched. When I got the item no one said I had to stay on their buddy list.

If the staff thinks it should be changed to make the game better then that's their call and I'm all for it. But, please couldn't some of these factions like blackscale be reset? There is no way to get it back and at the time I killed the two guards I was free to do so and still have a working necklace.

So I guess my suspicians were right ... you can not improve your blackscale warrior faction specifially. Will this ever be changed?

*wonders why they hate a dark creature like myself*

I guess I need to read up on the lore of it to understand it all completely ...
In any event the idea of having the right faction for the items to work seems logical to me if you are looking at it from the /role point of view!
