I'm thinking about playing EQ again

Namingway

Dalayan Beginner
I'm thinking about playing EQ again, and I'm thinking about saving money and seeing what's different with SoD.

So, I want to know what I'm in for as far as hardship in getting started, and relearning the game.

First, some background. I played EQ from 1998, sometimes after plane of hate, but before plane of sky, and I quit sometime after the epic 2.0's came out, which I think was .. uhh.. the GoD expansion? I forget what year that was. Anyway, it's been a LONG time since I've played, but I played for years.

The reason I quit was because I saw WoW. Playing that for a few hours and I just had to have it. I quit EQ, I deleted it from my computer, and I no longer have any idea where the original CD's are.

I quit, and I wish I could say I never looked back but... Almost all of my fondest memories of MMORPGs are with EQ.

It's been well over a year since I quit WoW. And I quit with no other MMORPG to play. There wasn't any competition I was interested in, but I just couldn't keep playing WoW.

Why I quit, and why I prefer EQ over WoW would be a very long post. I'd be happy to rant on and on about it, but I should probably abstain from making this post epically long.

So, here are a few questions I have SoD:

What EQ expansion is SoD on?
Do I have to repurchace all of the expansions?
Can I get my EQ character (assuming it still exists) over to SoD?
I still remember my original EQ password info. Can I use this to redownload the game?
What are the differences between EQ and SoD?
Does SoD have GMs?

That's all I can think of to ask right now.

I realize that I'm lazy to not look this up myself. EQ is a large, and complicated game, so I'd like to ease myself back into it as best I can. I'm also looking to see what kind of community SoD has.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Thanks for being inconsiderate enough to ask every question that could have been answered on the front page of the site.

Alright. I'll look again.

Sorry to waste your time.

Sometimes people are passionate enough about the games they choose to play to help even the lazy like myself.

Sometimes people have more to say than to just dismiss the poster entirely.

Oh well. Such is life.

Thank you :)

He's not wrong though. I knew I was being lazy. I just didn't think it was inconsiderate to ask stupid questions.

Anyway, that link helps a lot, thanks again!

1) well its not up to one expansion persay, SoD uses bits and pieces of a bunch of expansion, to be sure to be able to play you should consider buying Everquest Titanium.

2) Yes, If you don't remember where you have your CD's, but you can buy EQ Titanium for like 20 bucks.

3) No, im afraid that's not possible.

4) I'm not entirely sure you can, if you somehow can get the live patcher to redownload and install the entire game, then yes, otherwise no, but I don't know.

5) Ikaa answered that with a link, those are the big changes, there are some minor ones too, but it's too much to list, besides, i havent figured it all out yet :)

6) Thankfully Yes, and rules are enforced. they have a sense of humor too. :) Ikaa here being one of them :)

hope this helps :)

Ok, I went to "the station," ****'s billing site, and I'm still on there, and I'm still registed as having paid for all of the expansion up until GoD. I could have sworn I had OoW, and that OoW came before dragons of norrath, but at any rate, I have what I need to play.

The problem is, I would like to download these again, without having to pay **** again or having to renew my monthly subscription.

I have some of the old original discs, and I was thinking that would possibly allow me access to the patcher.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Ok, well, the company sells EQ is what's cencored there. Heh.

Anyway, I figured I'd ask here, instead of the official EQ forums. Since if I asked there, they might ask me WHY I wanted to do such a thing. I don't know if said cencored company endorces SoD or not. I don't want to advertise SoD on the EQ boards on the off chance they don't know that SoD exists.

nada

To be honest, i think your best option is to just buy a new set of EQ Titanium, and not lose it :p its not very expensive

You do not need to repay subscription fees to play on SoD. You do need up to titanium installed though.

We do not promote free download sites because we appreciate the people who originally coded the client and think they should be paid for their work. You can find titanium for about 10 bucks on amazon atm so it is not too expensive. Also since you bought the game previously if you have any friends with the CDs or files its fair use to use them to install eq back onto your computer.

Hopefully it wont be too much of a hassle. See you on SoD (with luck)

Ok, I'll see what I can do. Part of the problem is that I just paid to download several of the expansions in the first place. So neither I nor my friends have the physical copies of some of them.

Well, I'll get it worked out. Thanks for the help!

I don't get the feeling he's trying to get any free copy's of "the game" but trying to track ways down to get something he's paid for int he past. Thats just my opinion though and really does not matter! I think in my years though I've probably bought like 3 versions of the software :) They've made there money on me for sure.

Thinking back on it... there have been multiple games which I've re-bought the software just because I have a bad habit of loosing CD's :)

Exactly! Normally I wouldn't be so adamant about it, but I don't have a lot of money right now, and I'd rather not spend it if I don't have to.

To be honest, it is situations like these that I have no problem just torrenting something. Recently I had the urge to play AoE3 again, but was missing one of the CD's. After spending over an hour searching for it I just gave in and downloaded the game. Of course I still have my own CD keys, the original box, etc... so I didn't feel too guilty about it.

By no means am I suggesting that you do that, but when you've already paid for their product (sometimes multiple times) it seems pretty asinine to dish out more cash or go through the hassle of trying to find an alternate way of getting the information.

Best of wishes in your quest to get everything settled. I always thought that "the games" patcher pretty much would let you download everything pending you had a valid log in name. You would just have to go into the advanced options and make sure you had the proper expansions checked. I remember being xpacs behind on content but would always have it downloaded and ready to go soon as I was ready to pop in a fresh software key.

Though... sometimes time is money... and Titanium is still a wonderful option. I do have some warning with that. I had gotten two copy's of titanium and my friend had gotten the same as well when "the game" came out with there progression servers. Quick fresh starts but the software install disks gave us a heck of a problem. I know one of my cd sets disk 3 had problems on the install... my friends disk 5 had issues... though combined we had a good set :) I'm more then sure that the disks out now are fine.

Look forward to seeing ya around in game though!

In order to patch "the game" anymore, you have to have an active account. Their new patching program requires you to login BEFORE you can patch.

Used to be you just needed the patcher exe, and you can download everything else from there, but that just isnt the case anymore, sadly.

Ahh... thats to bad... heck if you just wait enough month... chances are there may be one of those random "try out norrath" again deals. I always seem to find one of my SWG, VG, EQ2, EQ1 whatever else randomly has an active month to try and lure me back :)

Ok, I'm in! Actually, I got it working last night, and I'm just posting about it now.

I just used the discs for Planes of Power that I happened to have lying around, clicked the EQ startup, and the patcher did the rest. I knew I was on the right track when the patcher said it would take 11 hours to finish.

Fortunately, it didn't actually take that long, it took about 6 instead, so I was able to reaquaint myself to the controls that same night.

My name was still availible, probably because it's such an obscure reference (Suporma, not Namingway. They're both pretty obscure though), so I recreated Suporma as he used to be, so very long ago. I think I even invested his stats the same way.

I still had some of the same hotkeys I remember too, like my mid-combat beg hotkey, and area taunt, ect. Now I just have to learn how to play the game again!

Thanks a lot for your help, everyone!
