Iksar Warrior - Doable?

Hey guys. Whenever I group with people we always have a lack of pure tanks. I was just wondering if an Iksar Warrior was doable? A lot of Warriors I talked to say go with Troll but I think Trolls look silly. Yes I am one of those people that will play a race because it looks cool, not because of its stats. I tried out a quick Troll and Iksar Warrior and the Troll would always last a good bit longer then my Iksar, as well as deal MUCH more damage. I was wondering if this ever changes? Would raids accept an Iksar warrior or should I stick with my Troll?

Ty!

As one gets gear. you'll find that sta and str get maxed pretty quick, especially with trolls and ogres. An iksar war would be just fine once you start hitting mid-levels, and get better as you go up. They also have higher innate AC (I believe) which is great for tanks. I'd say go for it. I started one, he did fine. I stopped at level 15 because I was already leveling 2 mains and 2 alts.

I would say an iksar warrior is indeed doable. Very doable actualy, though you will most certainly have a MUCH easier time with a troll, especialy at the lower levels.

As to whether a raid would accept you or not, that really is up to what your gear is. If you have gear that makes up for the lack of being a troll, and you are able to hold agro well, then it wont be a problem. The main thing you look for are HP, AC, and the ability to hold agro, which kind of runs into being able to produce DPS.

I highly suggest you dual-client or dual-box a healer of sorts. Probably a shaman, or a cleric, would be the best. :)

As I was saying, once yous tart raiding, youa re going ot have the same HP, more or less, as any other race. Once STA is maxxed, and you have the same HP gear as another war, you will have the same HP. AC, on the other hand, you will have a leg up, as with the same gear, iksar will have higher AC with the same gear (if I am remembering correctly that iksar have an AC advantage here on SoD.)

And I'm pretty sure iksars can wear plate here on SoD, so that rules that factor out. Pretty sure iksars would generally be a better choice for a tank because of the innate AC.

Yup, as people have said, Iksar make excellent warriors. Early on they'll have a disadvantage in the hp department, but their innate AC bonus makes up for it and then some at later levels. The regen becomes trivial once you get past the low levels, and the exp penalty is a bit of a nuissance... but on the other hand, trolls have the same exp penalty and their regen becomes fairly useless later as well. Ogres don't have the exp penalty, but their biggest problem comes from reduced utility from haste items--something like a 5% reduction in haste from items/focuses.

If you don't mind the exp penalty, iksar is an excellent choice. If you do want to avoid it, you might consider a dwarf, half elf, or human (though obviously humans get the raw end of the deal with crappy vision).

Nah

Humans look too plain. Dwarves look sort of cool, but come on. Iksar have scales! I think Iksar, Froggies and the Van Shir are some of the coolest looking EQ races. Its really too bad the cats are disabled here because they have some cool looking graphics, but I guess if someone is dumb enough to name their char like that its their own damn fault. I mean there is a naming policy out there for a reason.

Back on topic, I think I will be going with an Ikky tank.
Thanks guys.

Iksar is suicide if you intend to go high level. The exp penalty will murder you once you start doing AAs.

I have 400aa's and I like my iksar just fine.

Honestly, I'd probably make a halfling if I wanted to play a warrior. Iksar probably being second, if you don't mind grinding.

Dough

Yeah I heard that the exp penalty on the IK really bites, but if you look that cool I don't mind a penalty... Although I was looking at the Dwarf for a while when creating my tank. The one where one of his eyes is dead has a cool look to him.

Thanks for the response guys!

Ogre - but you'll need shrink when dungeon crawling. Large races seem to be prefered since you can slam and also you cannot be stunned when hit from the front which is great for maintaining aggro - the only problem with ogre's is they get a haste nerf.

No.

Go Halfling. They're the best.

Valid points *applaud*

Lol

Halfling? Really? But there so damn tiny. Ill check out the models to see if I like any. Whenever I see a Halfling they crack me up and I always make it a point to ridicule them about their size, with comments like "Ok, I am sorry about the short jokes. Please don’t punch my knees."

Halflings are potentially the best top end warrior because of

Dumb Luck: Occasionally, a halfling will be struck by a bout of absolutely dumb luck. When a halfling is slain, one of two things will occur. If he is under the effect of a Divine Intervention spell, it has a considerably increased chance to take effect. If not, he still has a small chance to avoid death, dodging the attack and any other struck by the same monster the same round.

Natural Tease: Halflings are excellent practical jokers and teases, often spending years practicing insults and taunts to perfection. A halfling with taunt has an increased chance of success.

But then again, iksars get the natural ac bonus.
