If it's not my router... what might it be?

So I log in, and get "You have been disconnected." after about 1-2 minutes of play.

I opened up all the ports on my Linksys router, even set DMZ mode, then even plugged in directly to my cable modem.

Still get disconnected every time I log in within a couple of minutes.


My question is, if it's not my router (and my connection is stable, it just goes to Char Selection and I can log right back in).... what might be causing this problem?
 
Sorry I kind of dropped off yesterday on this...

some possiblities for software:

- firewall (ie XP SP2, black ice, McAfee, Norton, etc)
- Anti-Virus (not as likely but possible)
- unwanted 3rd party software (spyware or virus)
- installation
- 3rd party app accessing internet or sucking BW (downloads going, etc).

The prime target in my mind would be a software firewall first. But this is a realm of seemingly infinite possiblities and conflicts - since it is unknown what apps are installed, running, etc...
