Idea: Make a requirement before you can level/train....

Add to the game a requirement before you can continue leveling.

For example: You need a "flag" before you can go from level 20 to level 21.

Other alternatives: Make a requirement before you can _____ .
-Get more training from your guildmaster
-Level from 32-33 (kinda a half way mark).
(I'm talking stuff beyond items)

This idea was prompted recently when my brothers and I made a pact that we would not exceed level 23 until we defeated the monstorous FleshFlower (adept). Obviously it was a personal goal for us to do this before we continued our quest. Now this mob is not just a hack and slash scenario, we really needed some strategy (kinda, you know what I mean). Yes, there were moments when we wiped out and thought, "lets just go back to leveling." In a personal sense, I was being tempted to just do the same old grind to forget about the challenge. I was being tempted to forget about stepping up to the plate. Realistically, I'm here for the challenge, I love it. FlowerPower had to die!

One thing I gained from this experience was this: I appreciate the content of the game more than ever. Maybe others would? Lemme know what you think. I'm not getting into the coding of how this works, but just use your imagination. Sorry if this has been brought up before.

ps. We never killed FleshFlower, but we are still 23.

You can stop your exp gain by typing /cmd explock 1 or something like that, if that's what you're asking about

No. I am thinking more along the lines of a requirement. A new code implementation.

I know myself, it's too easy to just say "screw it" and /cmd explock 0 and miss the point. I've played a Castlevania NES rom before, where you can save state, and it's not the same as the old days when Medusa would kick your arse and you would have to start the level over again. Which, for content reasons is preffered, and I respect that.

Interesting idea.

I would like to see something like 10 possible objectives and you need to fufil 3 before advancing in that level stage. A more required main quest as opposed to the current optional main quest.
Something obviously for 2.0 to possibly introduce.

As much as I like doing about anything not power-leveling related (hence why I'm *still* just short of level 20 despite starting playing in March...), I agree that in the end, it'd put an unnecessary burden on every player. Power-leveling is already severely limited by the various grouping, assist and buff rules, it doesn't need yet another obstacle that would also get in the way of people who like to exp "normally" but still want to progress, not move from one artificial exp barrier to another.

The idea simply wouldnt work on a server like this. There arent all that many people on at the lower level range and to make objectives for levelling such as killing adepts (which takes on average 1-2 groups for most non-twinked people) would make levelling non-existant and the lower-end gamers would be punished even more than they already are with regards to soloing.

i can't even envision a possible world in which this would be fun, but i've seen many games / dungeon masters do this. i can only assume the flying spaghetti monster hates me :psyduck:

I agree with Iaeolan, this is a good idea for SoD 2.0. Except, instead of killing adepts or something, you should have to complete the first part of the main quest at lvl 19 before advancing to 20 and gaining your surname. Having to kill an adept would not be good because of the frustration for some if they couldn't get a couple of good groups together right away. The requirement really should be something a lvl 19 can accomplish on their own; and learning lore, the world, and major NPC's just enhances the idea. Especially if you like roleplaying, this helps you immerse yourself into the world and makes you feel as if you really are young and just starting out and you have to learn about your world before advancing.

Sadly, many of us have played this game and many others to the end alreadly,or just prefer leveling as fast as possible. So, they are probably more interested in obtaining 65 as fast as possible and then will worry about the main quest and others. So, there might be some whining about adding to the time it takes them to get to 65. But this idea really does fit into the immersion aspect of the SoD 2.0 idea, so maybe it will fly.

Just my 2 copper,

No thanks. If someone likes it slow, they can go watch a movie on tv for a couple of hours before coming back to kill that last monster that will ding them to 20.

Immersion if fine and everything but some of us have been playing since WR, and that other game since 2000, so the chance of us being awed feeling immersed in the enviroment due to a little waste of time side quest is pretty low.

The 6th time around you are doing level 19 you just want it to go fast, becacuse you have killled the same bandits, kobolds, orcs, and various mobs in every possible zone that supports your level several times already. There is not much you can do to make leveling a newbie all over interesting, you just do it because you like the idea of hunting around with your buddies later on when the character is about the same level as your main, and you will get to experience a different aspect of Dalaya.

I don't think I am in the minority, either. It's not to shoot down your idea, but lots of peoploe like me will not support this kind of changes.

:psyduck: Guess I'm confused, pretty sure I mentioned that many of us have played SoD and many other games til the end and really don't want to add something to their leveling time. Oh well, for the most part, ya, when you are leveling an alt, or if you really just don't care about the lore and stuff, having to do the first part of the main quest would suck. But for those that are new to the server, I think it helps them learn what SoD has to offer. Plus, it's not that I enjoy leveling slow, I just enjoy spending time on my characters and not just grinding to 65 and becoming totally oblivious to what else the game has to offer except for the fastest xp zones at such and such a level. But, that's just me, I'm sure the majority really only cares for the quickest grind to 65.

Not sure if coding would be possible so that only your very first character on an account has to do this, that way if you're really just starting an alt to get to such and such a level to hang with friends, you wouldn't have to bother. I'm also not going to cry or whine if this doesnt get implemented, I can always just make it a personal goal if I had wanted to, it was just a suggestion.
