Idea for the Wiki

Dalayan Beginner
I'm not sure if there is a Wiki discussion area (I couldn't find it) but figured I would throw this idea up as a new page for the Wiki. I've been playing for a whopping 10 days now, but it seems like the single most common question I see in /guild (Beginners) is "Is item X worth holding to sell to players?". Now, I don't know all the answers, but I'm hoping with a little help from the forum we could compile a healthy list of items dropped by mobs level 1-25 that should be held for player sale. Obviously this list can, and will change, but I think it would be immensely helpful. I'm at work at the moment so I can only do so much, but assuming no real objections to the idea I will begin compiling a list of all drop able items on the above mentioned level range. After that is compiled I will post the items here and we will begin narrowing the list of items to "Sell it to a player" or "Click destroy". Let me know what you all think.

I think you would want to include merchant NPC price for items in your list, but it does sound very handy. It would have to be huge to include all the items though.

The list would be somewhat restricted by only including mobs up to level 25 (perhaps even lower...looking for suggestions on this) and not including any NODROP items. This would be to help new players only - and not be a full reference for every single item. Also, we want to be careful to not assign any sort of numeric value to these items for fear of effecting the economy. We only want to let the new player know whether or not to continue banking a given item until they find a buyer.

Okay, first off, the Wiki is editable by anyone, until you spam it up & you get blocked. :)

Create an account (please, please, please, don't choose a stupid name like l33tOn3 or you'll probably get IP blocked just because... ), under your in game name is preferable. Then you can add pages, edit pages, etc.

If you're *just* looking for current dropped armor, etc... the pages are probably already there. Just not in a one page format, you can add, "sells to vendor for X." Tradeskill items, the costs vary a *lot*, might not be a bad idea to have a list of tradeskill stuff actually needed/wanted.

If you're having issues creating a page and have ideas, feel free to PM me here, or e-mail at kerolynne1 at gmail.com with your current drops/list and I'll help you on setting it up, and you can edit it, add, delete, etc..

I'll be AFK a lot this weekend, so if you don't see a reply immediately, don't panic, I just have a real life too, but think it's a good idea!

You could just edit the entries items already have with the average price to players and vendors isntead of making a seperate listing, imo it makes more sense that way.

The only reason I said it would be viable... one page for tradeskill stuff could be good. AKA - is this a tradeskill item, or vendor fodder? Items (armor, weapons, etc.), just add to page.

I have started to price out all sale prices for fish caught. It should not be long before I will do a "average sell price" addition to the Wiki on all fish that are able to be caught and sold.

I don't think it's really necessary to list out the prices since they change so drastically/often. Lynne had the gist of what I was saying in the second post. I'm talking about creating a quick glance page that will tell people which items, obtained off lower level monsters, they can/should hold on to for selling to players (ie., trade skill items). I'm aware how to setup/change the wiki - however I didn't want to go throwing stuff up there before consulting the community. I also wanted to get suggestions and feedback. Anyway, we'll see how it goes.

Feel free to throw a page up.. watch the talk on it, and SysOps there (not to be confused with GM's, they *only* moderate the Wiki, have no in game power by *just* being a SysOp on Wiki) will usually comment (okay, so Tyrsell is best at it, I do from time to time).

Please note.. when editing, adding, etc., please put something in comments, so we don't have to see if deleted page, something majorly messed up, etc...

I'm fairly new myself, only been playing a couple of weeks, and I completely agree it's a question that comes up constantly. Whether you list what tradeskills it applies to is a moot point, as others have said there is already armor and other tradeskill info on the Wiki. I like the idea a lot, in the way you originally proposed it as basically a quick list for newbies to know what is sometimes bought by other players and what should just be VTed out of hand. As you say, trying to set prices might be a problem because of fluctuations, but a simple guideline for what to hang onto and at least try to sell to other players would be nice.

The only suggestion I had to your idea as originally proposed would be to drop it back to no higher than level 20 droppable stuff. Even doing a simple list is going to take quite a while, and unless you're powerleveling (in which case you obviously already have help) I would think that by the time you get to 20 you should already have a pretty good idea of what to save.

Good suggestion, and a nice thing to do for the true newbies. Wish it had been up when I started :keke:

Simple list with Vendor/Player attribute and ranking for player need.
Ranking on Player sold items can be simply Rarely/Consistently since, to be honest, Spider Silk moves much faster than Mielech's War Mead

Things that need to be taken into consideration would be items that are used in tradeskills but are available elsewhere (i.e. snake eggs, most gems) and generally carry no player value or items which can be used for tradeskills but are generally more logical to sell (i.e. chunk of crystal)

A+

Ok I got the ball rolling on this, as I think it is a very good thing to have, particularly if we are going to do a new player push soon. That being said, it needs alot of work, and alot of help, particularly from you heavy trade skillers. Wessel you tend to be good at layouts, so mess with what I got there to your hearts content.

In any case the current linked page is:
http://angrygamer.net/sodwiki/index.php?title=Player_Valued_Trash_Drops

But is subject to change before we are done. This will likely be on the front page right below the 'Differences' topic. Also on this note, please take a look at the main page discussion concerning a revamp of the information there. I think it falls in line with this topic, if only tangently.
