I was wondering about events...

We all know that every Wednesday is considered patch day (or so we should), is there any chance thatwe could have a tenative schedule for events? Or is there one that I do not know about?

The events here are unique and an absolute BLAST!, but I find myself missing the majority of them because I just happened to not be on at the right time. I am not saying a rigid setting where every Saturday at noon there will be an event come hell or high water, just something similar to the patch schedule would make alot of us pleebs happy as can be.

Thanks for all you do to all the Staff and to Wiz for keeping us all so very happy.

Events are run whenever anyone on staff wants to run them. It is usually a spur of the moment type thing. I think scheduling would take all the fun out of it for any staffer who is going to run it.

In all my time on SoD, I've seen maybe 1 or 2 events at 'Euro' times - one about two weeks ago (the archery one, and I was raiding at the time! :( ).

Events are pretty sweet, and I'm sure some Euro's would like to get in on the action without staying up well past their bedtimes ;) Maybe a couple of more euro-centric GMs/'event masters' could exist? Also, ever tried getting a petition answered during euro times as opposed to GMT-5-9 times?

There is no event schedule simply because well, there is no event schedule. Events are planned maybe 24 hours in advance at the very most. Unfortunately, that means we really can't provide a schedule of them.

Whatever happened to event masters? Just out of curiosity,.

Lack of qualified interest.

Events are rarely run during Euro times because it's hard enough to get people to leave their precious camps and raids to go participate during peak hours, and we simply don't want to bother running a major event that only five people will participate in. I actually stay up late myself to run events, and Wiz does too. If people were more responsive and people were actually interested in events for the most parts (people are actually only interested in calling us faggots for not handing out fame points and phat loot because they bothered to participate), we would probably expand the general timeframes, but as it stands, it's not gonna happen until people start showing some interest.

For the record: You don't have to tell me that you're interested in the events, because if I ask people directly everyone loves me and wants to have my babies because I'm an admin, but people tend to be all words and no action, so until morale improves, the floggings will continue.

Ok, when I put in for it I had no clue the creativity that could be done with them. I had participated in none at the time and had nothing but Live experience with events. My application was colored by that lack of knowing what I could truly explore. How can someone give a decent application if they have no idea of the limits or lack of said limits for the situation? When I think about the scavenger hunt event I came up with and the ideas I submitted in my app, they were good at the time. Once I saw the Archery event I knew that I had not even scratched the surface.

You want Event Masters? Open the apps to it again. Show people the lack of limits on ideas that could be done in SoD. If you want only perfection, then it will continue to be an unfilled position. If you are willing to show someone the ropes and explain what you want out of them, you could teach someone to be a damned good EM.

I think this concept applies to more than just this though. When asking for something from the general population, it may be a good idea to realize not everyone is a 65 with 100+AA's. On recipes it was the idea to use rare ingredients on hard recipes. Not everyone has been to high level zones or knows what constitutes a rare ingredient. This gives a disadvantage to those people.

This may sound like I am bitching and I am not intending it too by any means. I just think that there could be a bit of communication geared to lower levels too.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Admit it, you want to have his babies!

Sorry for derailment btw :D

Topic: qualified interests is uhm...

How about giving interested people a chance? Help them, guide them, and see if it works. There's nothing to lose imo.

Time, I guess, is the problem. GMs/whatever don't want to invest so much time in to getting only 20ish people turning up. Understandable, but sad - sometimes, small is better!

I guess the 'Time' issues also goes for 'training' people in it, and so on, and on...

As for people wanting to stay in exp groups... :(
Only thing I'd miss an event for is an in-progress raid...

As for faggoty fame points... who the hell wants them anyway? About the only thing they're useful for now is AAs? People complaining about events: 'flagged' to never be able to do an event again. Code stops such flagged accounts from entering any event zone...

But anyway...
'Tis a shame, the only 'real' event I ever participated in was the totally random (storyline concerned) tmap event (which started at 6am my time :p ) and it was great fun. Events 'off' the storyline are probably easier and quicker to plan... and no reason for them to be any worse. For those of us who don't follow the storyline so closely (shame on us, I know...) they're even better tbh...

We can wait for 'morale' to improve, I guess ............

Look guys, it's not that there weren't ANY qualified applications, there simply weren't enough of them to warrant making a team, and there were so few applications in total (less than fifteen) after leaving it open for at least a month that it wasn't worth bothering with. Furthermore, the problem with appealing to the lower end people is that we are not looking for help simply for the sake of looking for help - to use Danku's own example, we can make up the recipe for "Bread" and other simple stuff ourselves because it's a simple thing to do. We need help with the more exotic stuff because there's no way we could possibly keep track of all the thousands of items in the game, but the players who have been around a long time can usually come up with stuff that's pretty interesting. It's not about who has an advantage, because it isn't a competition; it's about getting the job done.

For the Event Masters, the notion of training them is somewhat laughable. I can teach them the lore fairly easily, and I didn't give a rat's ass about how correct the lore was in the applications anyway - the problem was that the storytelling (I don't remember who wrote what, so this isn't some subtle slight) in some of them was completely unacceptable, or the English was written by a dyslexic, or a number of other factors that simply made the applicant unsuitable. I cannot and will not sit down and teach someone proper English, which disqualifies a huge amount of people right there, and I will also not teach them proper storytelling. To expect me to do either of those is a completely preposterous notion. I remember one particular quest design applicant that spelled "kobold king" at least five different ways, all of which were wrong, in his application. What am I supposed to do with that if not throw it out?

Zodium, thank you for your reply and the information. I have a few little concepts/ideas and then will be silent on the matter since it has been well covered now.

1) Less than 15 applicants could be due to the limited number of people who have happened to be on during an event. No warning, hard to cancel on your friends when you made plans. Or just hard to be lucky enough to be on when an event occurs.

2) If there were more experience with events, I think more people would take more interest in them. If the number of events were increased, people may look for them more and have more interest in them. How many realize just how fun and unique they are?

3) Even if you could only start with a few people, it would lighten the load for the staff and improve the fun for Joe Average player.

In any case, the staff is amazing and thank you all for all you do. I am not bitching and I hope you realize that. I am only trying to help find a solution that will make a difference.

I think he was referring to applicants in response to the forum post for Event Masters

Yes he was, I was saying that if more people had first hand knowledge of how great the events are there would be more interest. More interest would then have more applications for something like that. =)

Now, I promise I am going to shush ;)
