How is the exp rate?

Hey guys, nice to try out your custom server. I appreciate the fact that people are improving upon EQ and creating immersive worlds. I just made a character the other day and played through the beginning quests. I could not play for long and I only made it to lvl 2.

I havn't played EQ 1 in years but it still seemed I needed to kill many creatures to get lvl 2 even after doing the quests. The server feature says "faster exp but not easier". What does this mean and how is the exp rate compared to live?

It seems I will almost be forced to dual box to be able to level at a good rate. Is there an exp bonus having a duo? If so how much?

And please keep it civilized. I am very aware I only played to lvl 2. Just asking general questions.

First, it's hard to explain the exp rate without having played live in so long... but i can tell you it is noticeably faster. The need for a duo is definitely not there for all classes. You can do quite well as certain caster classes right up to 65 and you can solo most classes into the teens, and higher with decent gear and bandaging skills(not so fun though!)

The exp rate works something like this:

Solo exp=100% exp
Duo=50% exp per character (so, 50% each toon)[i'm not 100% sure on this, can someone confirm it's 50 even?]
Any player in your group after 2 = 100%

So, if you duo, you pay for it, but finding more people to interact with your 'group' significantly increases exp and is a boon to all involved.(unless of course they suck)

Hope this blabbering helps.

The group exp works so that no matter how many people in your group there are everyone will always be getting half of Solo. The EXP is faster than it was before the game got ridiculous(Hello 20% AA a kill). I got 1-65 on my Ranger in about 2 and a half weeks but I had a 65 druid bot helping me, and I had already done 1-65 twice. Yes it's faster, but not too fast to be ridiculous.

It does help thanks. Im gonna play later tonight if nothing else comes up. I find the lower levels of EQ to be pretty boring but Im gonna fight the power!

Thanks guys

Don't skimp on the newbie quests IMO. Lots of them to do depending on your class, and they not only spice up the grind, but the items you get from them are actually useful, particularly if you aren't twinked heavily.

Huh?

still seemed I needed to kill many creatures to get lvl 2 even after doing the quests.

I'm not buying that....... Your almost lvl 2 once you leave the dream. Then it only takes like 2 or kills to ding lvl 2. If you did quests then you defininatly would of dinged. Fishy story............. =)

Welcome to our world anyhow!

When I started it took me a week to get level 30. Xp is noticeably faster but definitely not handed to you on a platter by any means. Implementation of xp-debt as opposed to losing xp is probably one of the biggest contributors to the speed.

XP is fine - i just started too and even at lvl26 i can get a lvl within an hour without really trying

Dying is still something you dont want to - it takes about 30min to recover i believe because:
- 3/5min rez sickness
- Med to full
- Rebuff / Summon Pet
- Med to Full
- Kill about 5-10 blue mobs at lvl26 (alternatively pay 8pp?)

so death means something - but the good side is - when you die 10 times you still only have 100% xp dept - meaning it will take the same as you would have died only once
