How does one duo?

Okay, so I have read a few of the posts on duoing characters and I think that I get the gist of it...but i have one simple question: (maybe more than one, but not many, I promise) how do exactly do you set up a duo? Do you play both characters on the same computer or do you need two computers to do this? And also, how can you manage to play two characters effectively at the same time? Any answers would be much appreciated.

Oh, by the way I am new to this (just found it a couple of days ago) and would like to thank everyone who developed it and patches it for their great work.

Eq windows and two accounts is the easiest way play two characters. Two accounts are useful so that you don't crash when you zone. I reset the config for eqwindows to make it easy to switch from one instance of the game to the other but alt/tab can also work.

For typical Everquest you can duo two sessions (separate windows) of the game on the same machine, or use two separate computers each running its own session of the game. With the two sessions on one machine setup you will have to alt+tab (or with EQW ctrl+alt+s, but it's buggy in my experience) between the two characters. If you want to duo exclusively you will want to pick a good duo of classes that complement each other, usually any healer+tank combo if you are into melee and healing. If you are into spell casting I suppose you could pick a duo for root+dot-ing (i.e. necro+druid/ranger), but the latter could be either a bit more boring or frustrating. If you plan to group with others often, any combo can be fun. Personally, I don't duo at all because I find it pretty stressful if a situation goes bad and I have to alternate between windows in a panic to fix things. I find that it also takes away from the roleplaying experience a bit, but that's just my opinion.

Also there are some programs out there that allow you to view multiple scaled down sessions of the game in a single window, but I have not tried those programs and they usually cost money. You may also be able to set up two monitors on machine if your videocard is capable of doing it, and it may be difficult anyway if you need to unlock/relock your mouse into the separate windows to gain control of each character. The live version of everquest has a mouse that can seamlessly transition from your OS to EQ without the need of locking/unlocking. I have no idea if there are plans for that on SoD, I'm new here too. I hope this info was helpful.

Have fun. :)

Also take a look at the eqw.ini. You can set up the window switching command to anything you want, like one keystroke to go back and forth between them. I definitely agree with two accounts, and two separate folders.
