Hi i just found this and was wondering how do i play on the server do i need to have a copy of eq? do i get to the server from opening EQ live?

You do need a copy of Everquest (Titanium or above I believe) but you don't access the server via live, we have our own patcher to get you up and running. A tutorial can be found at this link:
