The dream is basically a tutorial and teaches some basics, like how to memorize spells and how to talk to NPC's and give items.
Unfortunately it requires that you know how to talk to NPC's to even start it
In this game you have to "hail" them to talk to them, and you hail them by pressing the key (I think it's H as default?). If you press ALT O you can click on controls and look at all the keys and you can change them.
