Hello Everyone, I dont wish to be Pesterous (But its what I do best!) But I am curious as to how diferent 'SoD' Is.
1 ) Are epics still in place?
2 ) Are there any major shifts in the Game economy?
3 ) Do characters start off more/less powerfull that normal Game? Are the Monsters of the same dificulty?
4 ) Is gear any easier or harder to Obtain? How about Platnum?
5 ) Are all the expansions available here too? Are they updated with them?
6 ) Are patches done often?
7 ) Are there many people on at various times? Are groups still easy to find?

Well. I'm bored untill The patches are done (I must do them manualy  :( )
Farewell Everyone and hope to get to know everyone

Re: How Diferent From 'Regular' Game?

Welcome Thanial,

Essentially, the entire game is different than live. You will probably get several responses that have lots of different information - since very few can list everything that is different and everyone has a different opinion :). From my view the only things that are the same between Shards and live are the zone layouts (same zones but different mobs and different connections) and how most of the classes are played. The spells and AAs are almost all different than live and you'll find that most of the strategies will be different due to that and a host of other differences.

You will level quicker here than on live and the quest subsystem is far more involved and rewarding as are the tradeskills (although tradeskilling is a bit more difficult on Shards than live imo). There is an actual story-line and complete (imo) background lore.

Most importantly, the GMs actually play and monitor things fairly closely so idiots don't get out of hand and ruin the game for regular players (they're still around but there are consequences for idiotic behavior ;) ).

Some other quick notes:

  • There are no epics in (sort of :)) the shamans have a pretty good face item that is quested but all the other classes don't have their's yet
  • Most of Kunark is not available...yet...it's part of the background story - check it out here on the forums and in the game
  • The expansions up to Planes of Power are "mostly" implemented in some fashion...or will be eventually
  • Wiz and Co. have taken pains to make sure that the farming for plat does not get out of control, so consequently, some things are cheaper than live and others cost more, but (imo) the economy makes much more sense here than on live
  • Patches are "fairly" regular, but anyone who has been on the server for any length of time will advise you NOT to ask for ETAs on anything...the GMs are much more responsive than on live both in resolving petitions and implementing patches

Well, I've got to get back to work...come on in, enjoy yourself and once again...

Welcome!

1 ) Are epics still in place?
Not sure

2 ) Are there any major shifts in the Game economy?
Not that I am aware of.

3 ) Do characters start off more/less powerfull that normal Game? Are the Monsters of the same dificulty?
Think they are the same, apart from your own hp and mp regen rate is faster, which reduce the down time.

4 ) Is gear any easier or harder to Obtain? How about Platnum?
Easier. I can get 70pp per hour quite relaxly with my necro at lv40.

5 ) Are all the expansions available here too? Are they updated with them?
Not sure

6 ) Are patches done often?
Quite often, once every 2 weeks?

7 ) Are there many people on at various times? Are groups still easy to find?
Lowest time, usually Euro day time avg population is 70
Busy time avg is 300

Group is not hard to find,as we have mansion of portal (instant gate to different towns) which can get you from anywhere to anywhere quite easily, but I personally prefer solo, I know.. i am sad.

Re: How Diferent From 'Regular' Game?

I was once in your position - wanting to know all about a free, well-developed emu server. Well, let me just say that SOD is better than EQ, and it's getting better :) .

Re: How Diferent From 'Regular' Game?

I agree 100%. Ive only been around for a little while and I have noticed that the game play is a bit better.

Some of the people have chips on the shoulders but thats to be expected in almost any MMO. The community is very nice and very willing to take time to explain a few things to new players.

I am very satisfied with coming to the server.
