Either on the main website, the wiki, or the forums. Just something to let us know in case you guys are down. I dont see anything in the forums about downtime, and I cannot connect atm. Just curious, will try back later :)

i never understood why people had to be on irc to get that kinda information, it can easily be done with an automated solution that doesnt really take a lot of time to implement, on the SoD Page, for example.
Always seemed like a conspiracy to spead mirc clients all across the internet to me :haw:

"IRC is your friend" is always nice to hear. Im not speaking for everyone but i like to chose my own friends hehe

I agree. There's no reason it can't be coded to the main page to have a little icon showing status or whatever.

Whether there's resources available for completing such a thing is a different story.

well... it cant be more server load than 50 people logging into the irc server at the same time whenever the server goes down... You could actually just broadcast the IRC sod channel topic on the mainpage.. that would prevent a lot of people from logging in to idle as well..

I thought there used to be a server status notification on the main page years ago when it wasn't called Shards of Dalaya. I can't recall why it went though. I may be mistaken...

Why make such a big deal over not wanting to use IRC? I mean, its not like a simple client such as mIRC is ever gonna eat more then 1-2% processorpower or something.

The latest version of mIRC doesnt even use up space on the taskbar anymore (except when its full visible), otherwise it just hides in the system tray!

Because some people don't want to join a chat to find out server status? Just guessing. I mean if I go to log in and the server is gone, I just go do something else instead. IRC is old and there's no reason to make every single person who plays the game load it on their machine.

You can argue that the game is free and if they don't like it, too bad for them. I'll counter the argument with "if you want more players, make it easier to use".

IRC is pretty easy to use. Also, you can't beat Realtime feedback from GM's, Dev's and Admin's that using IRC facilitates. I thinkyou sorely under esitimate the value of IRC and the access to staff that it provides.

No I've been in IRC many times and I'd rather have a server status instead of watching lines of meaningless chatter waiting for an official message is all.

Some people like it. I don't. It's just not something I'm interested in using. Like I said, if the server is down, I just go do something else. I'm just pointing out what some others may be thinking.

It doesn't really affect me as much as others because I don't have anything time-sensitive going on in game. Just saying it would be a nice option.

Code the concept you propose yourself and submit it for use. They can only say yes or no and then you have your answer.

I don't work here. If that's the way this Suggestions & Requests forum worked, nobody would ever propose suggestions.

It's a suggestion. It's a request. It's not an offer of service.

Your responses seem pretty hostile and defensive. At one point, before the main page was changed, there was a little box that said "Server status: UP/DOWN" and then the donation status of the server.

So it's possible, but I'm sure it'd have to be manually changed every time. Instead of doing that, log onto IRC, and check the message of the day. The Devs/Admins change it frequently. If it's SUCH an inconvenience for you to go into IRC then I'm sure that firing off a few PMs to wiz will let you know the server status.

How did this thread turn into drama? :psyduck:

It's possible to code an UP/DOWN script but the one person we have that knows how has better uses for their time, basically. IRC is the option we offer for server status, if you don't like it then tough.

I'm closing this thread on account of drama, start a new one if you want to continue the discussion sans the flaming.
