Having played eq since when it first came out through PoTime, then again on the progression server, I find it very hard in here.

Starting out as a Erudrite chanter in Erudrin is almost impossible unless there are some quests I am missen to get me past the first few lvls.

However, I truely do love the classic game and skin with the portal of Mansion (which I still have to get use to).

Any hints for a new player on this server would be great as I have searched the forums a bit and havent came up with anything, and I even tried making a shammy since they are easier then chanters to start with.

Welcome to the community, first off. Second, unlike EQ live, it can be a little hard for new people to get into the swing of things, because of the many differences. If you need a few tips for getting the hang of everything i only have a couple, just to get a few levels. I don't want to rob you of the ability to learn everything on your own.
For Starters, for new chars and being new to the server try to stick to areas that people gather, kinda like our "Hot Zones". Level 1 to about 5 stick around Newport newbie area, lots of mobs, fairly safe, good place. After that Centaur Hills is good for another few levels before heading to Black Burrow. you could easily stay there until about lvl 14. from there you should have a bit of knowledge as to where you can go next, a little coin, and some info about the community in general.
Oh, and beware of Felyn... he bites :p
 
Welcome to the server. Before I came here I was also on the progression server. I think that you will find this game refreshing. You have some good advice already on the hot zones. Starting around level 10 groups can be found (starting in Blackburrow).

Some droppable gear with stats is easy to get at around level 20. Also you will want to do the Main Quest as you level up. It is rewarding in explaining the lore; it is not all that difficult; and it gives a nice reward.

Newport guards also give a nice series of quests which will reward you with a very nice ring. Even in the earlier stages of the quest, that can be completed at lower levels, you get a ring nicer than a non-twinked character can easily attain. It is also a fun quest and gives you some coin and faction.
 
Newport caster guild has quests for you too. Also, there is a quest for a shoulder peice in the erudin caster guild with Lady Niall (iirc nam right).

Have patience, an enchanter is a very tough class to start with without twinking. If you manage to make it, you will know your class abilities very well!!
