higher level druid ae spells(and their flaws)

ive noticed an overwhelmingly nagging problem lately with the higher level druid ae spells. fist of shitri wont rain, claim of winter only hits 1 mob on a regular basis even if i have 3 packed on top of each other, doesn't matter how tight they are. and ae roots are utterly useless, same problem as above. only root 1 mob no matter how tightly packed they are. is their ae range just so ridiculously small that they have to be Siamese twins to effectively land. but if thats the case then whats the point of ae spells. ive tried various things, but most of time its just the same deal, i waste all the mana trying to kite and only 1 mob ever takes damage.

Thanks

I think in order for a mob thats NOT on your target to be hit by the AE, you need to be on this mobs agro list.

Just throw a quickheal on some groupmember thats engaged in combat, or go melee for a few seconds, and your AEs should hit just fine

and what should i try when i am soloing and ive already snared the mob and hes in my pack of mobs standing ontop of eachother?

if you do have agro on all of them, and they are stacked on each other, you should have no problem hitting all of them with your AE nuke, but tbh its been some time since i tried it with soloing.
About rains.. the first wave of rain defines the spot where ALL other waves will impact on. so u cant really use them for kiting.

I can agree with this I've had some issues with AOE spells. on my druid with the rains not hitting mobs on top of each other, as well as my enchanter AE mez not hitting mobs (its not being resisted its not breaking, it just acts like there arn't 4 mobs there and only 1 instead)

first of all the spell Fist of shitri is not a rain it is an aoe with the wrong color gem took me a while to figure this out. secondly as stated above you have to be on the mobs agro list if you are soloing with triple kiting the range on these spells is sooooo small they basically have to be touching each other. thirdly aoe root if you are triple kiting is the stupidest thing a close second is using fist of shitri which stuns because of the fact that getting your mobs back together because root wont break on all at the same time. also to go with root ae root is actually very helpful in a number of areas and without the name(aka i don't want to log in to find it) i want to say it has a 100 spell range maybe a bit less but its fairly massive assuming your on the mobs hate list again.

The spell Fist of Shiritri is a targettable AE spell with a range of 10, and a stun component of 2 seconds. The cold AE Winter's Claim has a range of 25. So that's how close the mobs have to be. Really really close.

imo it's just easier to use Ensnare on all of them, since it's so little mana and such a long duration. They also still move fast enough to get them bunched up pretty quickly. I've never found the targettable AE root or snare to be very useful, since you can't use it off the bat for mobs that aren't on your agro list, and they have such a short duration/range.

Rootcall, the PBAE root, is pretty helpful anywhere that mobs don't summon. Use it on a tmap or basically anywhere a group of summoning mobs can be rooted and mobs will basically play catch with you until you are dead.

i understand the logistics of kiting multiple mobs, i was a wiz on live for 5 years, its like breathing to me. i was just curious as to why the ae range on the druids spells are so obsenely low as opposed to wizards who can ae freely. was only curious about ae root because of my monk that i box. but all my questions are answered, druids are heal and ds bots only. got it.

actually i can kite quite efficiently you just have to get used to getting them closer with snare and wolf form it isnt that hard

Heh, druids are much more then that. But if that is all you care to do with yours, Enjoy!
