High end Raids

Just comming to SoD in the next week or so. Doing all my research now, comming from EQ.

Now in EQ I 3 boxed, Cleric, Warr, SK and exchanged the cleric for a shammie. (I cant 4 box)

I know in SoD you can only 2 box which is fine.

My goal is to get into a higher end raiding guild or even a guild that had a regular raiding cycle.

A co-worker who plays SoD said that SK's arent really that good in SoD and I am wondering with what I want to accomplish How would a SK/Shammie combo work out in SoD?

Getting into a high end guilds does not really involve your class choices as much as it involves:

1) Your time investment into the game, Exp and money is great for everyone but healers direly need loads of exp and both direly need charms the further you progress into the high end.

2) Dont burn bridges, there are numerous examples I could make of players who do this but if you act like a shit bag to everyone, everyone will treat you like a shitbag and when you have a small community where the super high end is even more tightly knit you do not want to be that guy.

3) Don't suck at pushing buttons and don't make obvious bad mistakes. It eventually shows up but some people are just bad at this game even when its not that hard, they will choose to do bad things or make really poor decisions that lead to everyone else failing and having one bad person can easily ruin some fights, this is especially true when your playing healers/tanks who generally need to be on the ball past a certain point.

I would talk about shadowknights being bad but frankly since they revamped how their aggro works my biggest complaint was resolved, They are worse in certain situations then the other tanks but better in some. I could go on but its not really like they are the worst class in the game anymore.

I box a SK/Shaman combo.

There has been a lot of changes to SK's recently. They are quite awesome to play in my opinion. The biggest change, is the change in aggro spells, it's now aggro over time, which gives you a bit more flexibility while boxing to do stuff on the shaman. No more spamming aggro non stop.

The down side... hard to get into any high end raiding guild with a tank... prepare to do a lot of grinding AA's/Tomes before you get your chance. You would have an easier time getting a guild spot with the shaman imo.

The biggest thing.. is play times.. If you have a ton of play time and can make almost all raids you will get more rewards

Well I played a SK in EQ and they along with pallies at least now are wanted more then pure warr are plus SK in EQ have AOE agro spells and from what I am reading I guess thats really not the case in SoD. But I do like the hybrid tank vs just a pure tank.

I was thinking that the shammie would end up being my main since SoD shouldnt be that much different then EQ in that healers are needed more then tanks and dps classes. Which is fine. I am not sure if I mentioned or not but my wife and 2 sons will be playing but they HATE raiding rather then just grouping and doing smaller things in game.

I know there is going to be a learning curve in SoD but I am thinking by the time I am ready for the higher end stuff I should have those things locked down.

Now, my play time is very open I do have a ton of time to spend playing either at work or home depending on the time zone of the guild I join. Play time has never been an issue for me. Plus 4 Nov 2010 I start my time off which is aprox 30 weeks in which at least 5 to 8 hours can be spent playing.

I tend not to be "that guy" in game since my job is to be "that guy" at work, so i am more into the relaxed want to help almost everyone type of player if I can and as long as I can get some of the things accomplished that I need to in the mean time.

So if I am reading the suggestions right play the shammie as main when its time to get into the raids. Which is good for me.

Well I don't want to discourage you from maining what you like to. You've got a lot of time to get to 65, feel it out :). Maining a healer may or may not make you happy, for me it's like I'm fighting health bars when I main a healer, so I get much more enjoyment out of the SK, the healer is essentially a tool for me to progress with my main.

Anyway, hit me up in game if you have any questions, glad to help you out, and welcome to SoD man.

Clerics are the #1 most desired class in the high end / any end / always forever.

If you are a good cleric with high playtime and motivation you can get into any guild on the entire server, and be invited to do every single encounter in the entire game.

I highly highly highly suggest you play a cleric if you plan on investing large amounts of time into this game and enjoy healing/being the most overpowered class on the entire server.

I wrote this post a while ago specifically because we get lots of posts like these. Some of these things aren't entirely as dire as I make them out to be in anymore (shadowknights are pretty awesome now, beastlord swarm pet gives them lots of dps) but it will give you a true, no bullshit explanation of how desired every class in the game is at the high end.

i have to agree that every guild seeks a mained cleric as normally 1 or 2 out of the 3 are boxed.
