Dalayan Beginner
I just started delaya and have never played any rpgs before.

i was reading the classes descriptions and was just curious as to what exsperianced players thought.

i want to know what a good fun beginner class would be

i think grouping sounds like a blast but soloing sounds fun too.

any info/suggestions would be greatly welcomed......

thank you for reading

If your very new and want to experience some gameplay solo to get used to the game i would advise a pet class to start. Either Magician or Necromancer would make a fine class to do the first 10-20 levels alone easy enough if you buy your spells when you get level 4 (at least the pet). I found it an enjoyable way to get used to EQ.

It also makes you do a bit more then just attack on for the first 10 levels wich is what most non caster classes do for those levels.

necromancer makes skeleton pets and does damage with spells that do damage over time crippling the enemy.

Magicians command the elements and thus make elemental pets like a fire, water, air or earth pet and do direct damage.

i would also recommend trying shaman/druid

shaman - a mystic that channels the power of the body and soul to bring out your greatest potentials (awesome stat buffs, good heals, good pet, good Damage over Time DoT spells, haste, slow and the awesome ability to almost always stay full mana via the canibalize technique which converts hp into mana)

druids - treehuggers and weedsmokers that can teleport, have the 2nd best heals single target and group wide (surpassed only by clerics), have decent hp/mana regen buffs, the best regen spell in the game and an awesome damage shield. also have a gimp pet that you can summon and call it Mrgimpy or something:)

but ya, i agree with Noktar, if youre new to this whole RPG thing, defo try a caster out first, melee will seem easier at the start, but its more boring due to lack of versatility at the low end. melees do become more engaging at the higher levels when you have to deal with multiples mobs at the same time and crowd control and stuff. personally i would not recommend maining an enchanter, theyre kinda fun to mess around with illusions, but kinda boring to play from my experience

In general I would advise play something for a week or so then choose a class you really want to commit to.

does race have anything to do with class? or can i choose any class and race?

is it easy to get groups with necros or shamens?

Race does not matter a whole lot but for my first char I would choose something that does not have trouble seeing in the dark (this basically means no humans erudites or barbarians). Shaman do not have much trouble getting groups (they are the best at slowing enemy attacks) Necro's maybe get a group a little less often but honestly until you get to 65 the average xp group will take anyone to fill a spot as long as they are not in dire need of a healer or tank.

I would say Druid... you get a bit of everything, and are needed in just about any group. Its a very jack of all trades class.

Once you find a aspect of the druid you like best try the other classes out that specialize more in those aspects.

Trying multi classes out is definitely strong advice.
