New addition to the server here. I thought I'd introduce myself and, at the same time, squeeze in some mandatory newbie questions. :D

After roughly six years of EQ I've decided to take an undefined break. One day I just logged on, looked around and said "screw this". I cancelled my accounts (I used to 4-box at the end) and haven't really thought twice about it since.

Anyhoo, I've dabbled a bit in World of Warcraft since. When it was released I was one of those loud-mouthed dissers who muttered about "finally being rid of the "leet kidz" from the EQ servers" and I was constantly complaining about the nintendo-esque graphics. However, after playing it a while I grudgingly had to admit that it was, infact, quite fun.

But, my EQ nerves are still twitching. While I have no inclination to go back to EQ1, I miss the challenge of it. WoW, while fun, isn't exactly up there when it comes to player-skill hehe.

So, here I am. I've fiddled around a bit (not much) and I gotta say I really like the atmosphere you guys have created. But, as with any newb, I have a few questions.

Such as:
Can I use custom interface graphics? The standard EQ interface is functional and all, but there are so many other renditions out there that are, well, prettier. :p

Is there a list somewhere of commandline "slash" commands? It took a while to figure out the whole /cmd specialize for instance and it'd be nice to have a little list somewhere that you can review whenever you need to figure something out.

I'm sure I'll have more silly questions later on but those are what I have for now hehe.
 
I don't think regular EQ UIs will work without modification, but I know there have been comversions. There's a nice-looking Celtic-style UI that I use...you can find the link by searching the forum.

As for the custom /cmds, type '/cmd help normal' for a list of them.

Look at some of the UIs of some people and decide if you like any (there are MANY more out there than just these) and if you like any of them, ask someone if they could show you how to get it.

But yeah... you still play WoW...? Go play EQ again, it's begging for you. WoW is too simple for someone who has played EQ for 6 years, like myself.

Yeah, it is a bit on the simple side. But then, it offers a no-brainer sort of play that I find relaxing and enjoyable at the moment hehe. But like you say, EQ is still tugging at me.
 
Many of those available at www.eqgui.com work just fine. Some may require you get new buff/song windows so that the spell names are correctly displayed, but I havent really had trouble getting one to just work right out of the file.
 
yea, WoW was too easy for me to even start playing.

I watched someone play one time, and they were losing a battle against a mob that unexpectedly agro'd them. Now imagine this next part from an EQ players perspective, that's never seen WoW played (played eq for 5+years), so the person just turns around and runs. Without thinking, I just say, 'wow, you can run?' I don't mean strafing your ass off to try to make it to a zoneline, I mean it's like you got bard speed and the mob is trying to keep up or something. I'm not sure on this, but I think it loses agro after a while, or distance, too? They should have added a feature where you get a pop up box that says, would you like to engage this mob? would you like to disengage this mob?

not my type of game ;/
