Ok, here's what is happening: I double-click on sodpatcher.exe, then I click "Patch and Run". EQGame.exe starts to load, and then I get the error: "eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost."
I am running Windows XP SP2.
This happens consistently, and I cannot get around it.
The steps I have taken are as follows:
First, I couldn't get the patcher to patch, so i downloaded the manual download from this forum. It was after unzipping the manual patchfiles download and running sodpatcher.exe that I started getting this error.
I tried having the patcher Repatch All, but it would just sit there for hours, telling me that it was downloading "generalcommands.html".
Router Used Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router - WRT54G - Firmware Version: v4.20.7
Using Norton Internet Security's Firewall (Set rules for sodpatcher.exe and sodbin.exe, as well as everquest executables).

Anyone have any solutions?

May or may not fix it, but EQ does not like Norton at all. Try disabling Norton when you go on SoD.

I had this just happen the other day. And I fixed it by turning off antivirus.

Tried disabling both Norton Antivirus and Norton Firewall, but still no luck - same "eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." error.

Any other suggestions?

Ok, tried again, this time disabling antivirus and firewall and then doing a "repatch all" and I was finally able to get it going. Thanks for the insights. See ya on the other side.

even after I re install EQ and download the patches up to LDoN and turn off norton downloas the patches for SoD I log in and get to the server select screen and I select the server and it shuts down EQ and brings up the "eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost."

I am running Windows XP home edition

and this is really frustrating cus I have reinstalled everything about 4 times I would really like to play

specifically the comments about a ping of over 500... I have found that when I get this same message, it usually coincides with a crappy ping/connection, and a quick modem/router reset helps. The occurances of this message have been more frequent, with all the lag issues and LDs while the db box is being worked on.
