I just discovered Shards after years of playing The Game off and on. The endless parade of expansions is driving me nuts, and after the last one (released in Nov. '07) I decided that enough was enough, and that I wouldn't buy anymore of them. (I probably will though, I am an addict) I probably will go back to The Game after I get my fill of Shards, but for now I have got to say that I am very, very impressed.
The overhauled quest system is a major step up from what The Game offers. In The Game you have to play "Guess the phrase" in order to receive old world quests. Most of the time using the worlds in parentheses do nothing. The /cm D* system is fantastic. The journal system is also a major improvement, along with the alignment system. These are things that The Company should have done themselves from the get-go. The way the zones flow into one another is also a major improvement, and I don't know how you guys did it, but the mob AI seems to have been tweaked. Good job!
The player base here is much more friendly, and if I have to ask a question I don't feel like 50 people are going to act like jackasses. In other worlds I am having a great time!
