Hey there.

Used to play back when Game was beta till Kunark expansion. Quit shortly afterwards.
I started up my Gnome necromancer, did the dream, and then was transported into the sewers.

I really like Steamfont, and was hoping my Gnome would start off there. The sewers were annoying and so I decided to log till I got the answer...does everyone start off in the sewers? Any way I can avoid that and just start in Steamfont?

edit: Also, will there be a population in Steamfont at all, or will it be a wasteland? Surrounding areas?

Thanks a lot guys, looks like you put a lot of effort into this, and I'll have no problem donating every once in a while.

Different classes/races start off in different towns. Not everyone starts off in the sewers. =P Get a quick level or two and then take a jog to a zone you do like and make sure to bind when you get there!
 
One more thing. So my gnome necro is doomed to always start off in the sewers? I see that there's a mansion of portals, but it doesn't seem that any lead to Steamfont.

Do I want to go to Steamfont anyways? Is there much of a population over there, or am I better off just at Newport anyways?
 
Necros in general start in the sewers, and IMO that area is better for starting off. It's more populated and you can go right out to North Newport, Centaur Hills and then Blackburrow to xp from 1-20(ish) before needing to run somewhere far off. =P

Steamfont is now renamed Underhill, and has a Mansion of Portal connexion. You should head there if you really like the place.
