Having problems with agro, please help.

I need help trying to figure out whats wrong, asking if anyone is having the same problems I'm having, and some insight on how I can fix this. Here is some scenarios of what's happening to me: I played a paladin for 49 lvls and I noticed was really hard to grab agro from the casters. Recently I was pulling in Keep of Mielech when i pulled a mob, it rooted me and went after the enchanter, the enchanter pet pulled the mob away from the enchanter right away, i was rooted so i was able to cast 5 stuns then root wore off and mob was still on enchanter pet. After this I quited my paladin(and this broke my heart) because a tank that can't grab agro is a useless tank. So i started a Shadowknight and now this shadowknight is lvl 24 and having the same problems, I'm casting snare+despair+scream of hate+Disease cloud+lifespike left and right and still can't pull the agro from the casters, last night the mages where the tanks in my group, and i felt really bad about that. I will like insight on what am i doing wrong since i like to be an agro tank. I won't play a warrior, please don't suggest that.

(heard a rummor that stuns work in WR as an agro remover, as it is on wizzard spell concussion?, can anyone clarify this rumor?)

The casters you are with need to learn how to play, I guess. Almsot never have an issue with aggro on my SK when people let me establish aggro first (at your level used darkness and disease cloud plus melee for aggro).
Once you hit 34, you'll have the terror line, they work great.

Same here, i did do a few dungeons with my SK and never had ANY problem keeping or removing agree for that matter, maybe you should question the people you play with because i only need to cast a tap or despair and taunt all the way without losing it.

Yeah I play a chanter and the only time my tank has trouble keeping aggro is if I get stupid and let off with something too quickly. Seems to be hard to lose that agro though once it's centered on me.

Are you casting that succession of spells before or after the caster pulls aggro? A pally or a sk should be casting their aggro spells during the first 10% of health or so and then the slow should come in. Most nukers should wait till 80% or so to avoid aggro.

I would suggest fiddling with the above numbers as you level to see what allows you to maintain aggro. If people refuse to let you play to keep aggro at all times then either leave the group or let them die and dont worry about it. And in the future, I would consider black listing some people that dont know how to play in a group accordingly.

And the aforementioned numbers are just a suggestiong to start with. Play with them and see when casters can start coming in with slows, nukes, etc. Just make sure you are hitting the mobs with yours spells first and not using them to solely pull aggro after it is lost.

Yeah I never had problems holding aggro as a SK unless some goofball warrior or ranger bumped their taunt key...

...after that whenever I grouped with them I said "Can you please relocate your taunt key to where you won't accidently bump it? Thanks"

I am not sure, aggro is wierd. Example being. I hit a mob for 1 damage with a dagger and try to back up so it will get on my pet, it will not get off me and just stays on me, may eventually get on my pet but it takes a while.

Send pet in first, stays on him.

Two mobs. I get aggro, one stays on me, one on pet, got to make my pet hit him for it to get on my pet.

Two mobs, pet go in first, they both stay on him.

As for nukes, in a group in Yaraith I nuke for 180 when the mob is at 50%, I get aggro. I have noticed aggro is wierd. I always get aggro off my pet if I nuke, I pretty much just have to heal him and let him beat down the mob and wait till 50 or so to nuke to keep it from running after me. I have tried to use the earth pet but 90% of the time anuke will break the root and it will come after me anyway.

I don't think it is just you because aggro has been wierd for me since I started playing, I guess you just learn to adjust to it. In groups I usually just send in my pet and wait till about 30 and nuke.

Who knows.

in a wierd sort of way, the agro in WR is more relistic.

the mobs go for the 'weaker' players. As in players sitting down (healers, casters) and if someone does a boatload of dmg really fast (nukers) they go for them... smart fighting if you ask me.

i would rather kill the guy thats blasting me for 250dmg evey 3 seconds, rather than the guy thats pokeing me for 30 dmg every 2..

In regards to pets and aggro, have you tried telling your pet to taunt? I'm pretty sure it doesn't remember, so I tell it to taunt any time I start soloing and if I zone I tell it again.

I know the warrior I usually group with is having one heck of a time getting aggro off casters and healers. She seems to be taunting properly (I know because shes sitting behind me and I watch her) and doing all the normal things a tank does to get aggro, but she just can't hold it.

We are only level 13, but she was tanking with no one else even touching a mob in BB. The mob got to about 40% health and our enchanter cast a single spell on the mob and instantly the mob was off her warrior and on the enchanter in the group. This happened multiple times when we tested it, and it is simply hard for her as a warrior to hold any kind of aggro.

We are still playing with it to learn how to adjust our tactics because as we know, understand, and LIKE, is that WR is NOT the original EQ and the way we kept aggro there won't necessarily work here. It does get a bit frusturating though as a warrior for her when no matter what we try she seems unable to hold aggro, so hopefully we can figure it out relatively soon. :D (Note : She isn't an SK or Pally, but a pure warrior.)

See you in game,

Okey got my SK past lvl 30, and yes he can hold a hell of alot of agro, unlike the paladin. I was suggested by melwin to try to use flash of light, now i can use flash of light if it was only one mob i pulled, most cases i have been pulling 2-3 mobs(btw i tryed rotting mobs but that only last 3 seconds, my pally being a high elf having cha over 140), untill camp is broken, and when you have more than one mob in camp flash of light does not work..it may cause more problems. As for the SK I'm loving it, just thou i notice when i'm MT, and i have been the past 2 raids for the Haunted Treant, i tend to lose some agro at the last 20%- of the mob, luckly at that point the mob is almost death, i call in melees to assist at 80% and casters to assist at 70%. I start by using a HT, followed by all other debuffs/DoTs my SK has available at lvl 33 and taunt like there was no tomorrow. Does seems to me that Paladins do need a rework, notice how everyone that has said that hold good agro has been SK's, warriors and pallys seems to have their issues.

at lvl 13 she should be able to train dual wield. Have her get a couple fast weapons (blenders agro more than gillutines) and make sure to use the aggressive style command as she will hit faster still. At 15 she will get driving attack and this should help greatly. I know my monks fire style procs intermittently but usually 1-3 times per fight and when it goes off, I don't loose agro, which could be a bad thing in a group but solo it roxorz :p

In response to Zyekad,
What I noticed from the group was that the warrior had no trouble taunting off the healer, you were doing quite a bit of healing that night, but the the warrior had trouble taunting off the enchanter. Now if enchanter nukes are anything like live they have an extra aggro component.
What I would suggest is more agro control on the part of the enchanter. She did a great job mezzing adds, then later as the mob was being killed, would nuke it. Since the mob would retain the agro from the mezzes, it is very possible for the mob to "remember" that the enchanter screwed with its brains and want to kill said enchanter.
Also, enchanter would sit on occasions during fights, that and the second cleric. Bad in any situation. Again, if its like live, once a persons sits down they are treated like lvl 1 players by the mob, this makes them insta targets.

Only strange aggro thing that I have noticed is pet based aggro. My mage pet will be fighting a mob, and if I cast slow or Malise as a shaman on it too soon then it will come right after me as to be expected. But I run away let the Fire pet get the aggro back. Then, I go sit down and he doesn't come after me at all. Then all of a sudden even if I do not cast another thing on the mob, the pet loses aggro and comes after the shaman? This can be as much as 50% later in the mobs health. Only the mage in the two person group is casting anything (usually heals on the pet).

I get the same thing with my SK. On EQ live I also played a SK, I'd pull with clinging darkness (lvl9 snare) do it about 3 more times before the mob lost 10% life and the usual tuant and hit worked fine, couldn't loose agro unless I used FD. In WR it seems when I use the same stratagy I struggle to get agro. I'd shoot out any spell I could I'd snare, dispair line (never even worked all that well in EQ live) and I taunt as fast as it will let me. Still I struggle to grab agro and burn all my mana each battle just trying to grab it and hold it. Not only does this make for crappy down time, it hurts the dps when your spending 1/2 the battle casting spells. I hope it gets better as I lvl up or I'll find soemthing else to play.
