Halas travel

Hey guys! I am new to the SoD server and I was wondering about the travel from Halas.
I see most other starting cities have a mode of transportation out of that zone, but I am
really feeling stuck in that newbie area. It seems all mobs in the snowy mountain area
all become green once you hit level 6 (from dark blue to green??) and then when you
travel out to find something higher level, there's not much to find. I wandered around
for an hour and was only able to find a few things I could kill. When I asked people
where I should go to hunt at level 6, they all suggested Centaur Hills and pray I could
make it through BB. Huh? So I went looking for a translocator (since I thought there
would be one in all starting cities) and didn't find one. All other zones surrounding are
atleast level 30 or more. Is there a better hint to get out of this starting area, or maybe
let me know where I can kill something to become higher level? I'd really appreciate
it. Thanks :)

I think I saw the halas destination from the translocator, so there might be one there. Did you check on your map (backspace key) ?

halas

Yeah Halas is a bit out of the way. No there is no translocator and like you were told its proberly going to be a run through
black burrow.
Most people are fairly helpful and if you ask someone in zone for and Invis you'll be on your way.
(usually someone farming icegiants ask one of them)

Good luck.

The first place to look is the stickies in this forum, one of which is SoD related websites - Must have list. On that list is Zone Connection Map - Compliments of Sstecik. It shows you how zones connect, and where the translocators are. No, there is no translocator in Halas. Yes, you have to go through Blackburrow to get to Centaur Hills, but it's a quick run if there are people hunting in Blackburrow. The only problem may be the gnolls in the tunnel on the way to blackburrow, but these might be good for you to hunt anyway.

The gnoll sentinals on the way to blackburrow were white and yellow to me at 6. They can be easily single pulled if you time things right. As a druid I was able to fight them successfully (most of the time *laughs*), but it usually took a full tank of mana. Pretty much, I'd never get more than 2 killed before they respawned, but just those two at white and yellow, and I got 2 levels in about 2 hours. The only problem is that there tends to be a lot of people hunting them. However, if you run through and zone into BB (if they are spawned, you'll have a bunch on your tail), then zone back. There is one that spawns not too far from the zone line and one that wanders that corridor. At your level, those two will keep you busy for about 2 levles, and your by the zone line if one is too hard and you need to make a run for it.

If you don't want to fight those, I never had a problem getting through blackburrow. Just keep your map up so you know where you're going. Odds are, someone is clearing the mobs on the way, but if they aren't, you can probably stay ahead of them to get to the zone line. I ran through there a number of times at levels 4-8 and never died once. Centaur hills has some gnolls on the outside of the zone which are good at your level, and there are other mobs in the hills at your level as well.

Just feel lucky you didnt start in Sadri like I did. The newb zone is horrible for starting out, and there's no zones connecting to get me anywhere. I had to translocate to go anywhere... and it takes a lot of trash loot to get that first 2p ;(

imho first translocate should be free :D AND they should have a shaman guild in np /rant off

Frogloks are a natural race for those with a high tard score.

There are also a very few of us who actually just like the Taldorians.

(Naming differences are intentional.)

I hold it as a personal conviction that the Sundered Mountains are the filter that removes as many of the tards as possible. This is vital if we wish to keep our race viable. It would not take many of those tards to send the Taldorian the way of the Vah Shir.

On a side note... the first time you visit "the Sun" with your first character, it is very difficult. It gets easier each time you do it, however. I very much like Sundered now.

Pointless, spiteful, and entirely debatable post... Rambler has apparently met his match on the boards. Not that we needed another poster that likes to hear the sound of his own voice. Gratz.

It wasn't offenisve at all, he just stated that you may change your mind about travelling/zones as you progress and got to know the surroundings better and like Jay stated he did it "In character".

I took that post as being "in character," therefore, I didn't find it to be offensive at all. :p

"Tard score"' is not really something a Barbarian would say is it? If that's in character, I see the future of roleplaying being rather dim. I am not saying he should talk like a drunk Scotsman, but at least make an effort to get out of junior high school lingo.

Frogloks have, since their inception here, had a notoriously hard beginning. It's not a terribly hard leap to asssume that this is to keep out dullards :p

*laffs* at Rab's pun

Anyone that knows Mogger knows that was definately very "Moggerish" to say. That is all I was getting at (not that it was a shaman thing to say).

Tard score is obviously offensive....

3 Gay jewish mexican catholic priests enter the special olympics and begin drawing pictures of Muhammed while burning a flag from the USA, screaming "Sieg Heil" and punishing goats in overtly sexual ways. What retards.

There, now spread 'em, get all the sand out, and calm down... good lord. It's offensive if you let it be.

A... I am Taldorian... NOT BARBARIAN.

B... If I had called for the genocide of all elves and gutting of all druids, that would be spiteful, and probably (But sadly) pointless. I did not do those things in THIS post.

Frogloks are the near mindless cave dweelers in the dungeons off Stinger's Bog. They happen to be a word used in the (not changeable) character creator. The proper name for the player race is Taldorian. Taldorian have NO racial connection to the mindless slaves in Stinger's Bog. As part of the main quest, you learn exactly what our heritedge is.

When playing in any MMO, the animalistic races have a tendancy to draw some unsavory types. Cutesy, and sometimes not, animalistic races draw in the Furries/Plushies. Look it up elsewhere if you do not know what it is, DO NOT DISCUSS IT HERE. No one wants to hear about it. This is a fact, and is not debateable.

Animalistic races also draw a large number of people who insist on making extremely stupid names, latch on to moronic animalistic sterotypes, or just plain act like total tards and drive the developers nuts. These are nto their main characters, which are usually elves, but little throw away diversions for when they are feeling bored. This, with the exceptioon of the elf comment, is a fact and is not debateable. The elf comment is also spiteful and probably (but sadly) pointless.

For these reasons, a great many players actually hate having the animalistic races in game. I do not know the exact reasoning or situation, but from what I have learend, it is for these and other reasons that the Vah Shir are not a playable race in SoD. If I had to guess based on what I have heard, the fourth paragraph of this post has a large part of it. The iksar have natural racial disadvantages but are not esspeically targeted by the tards. Godzilla/Gieco/Gecko was done so much in 2000 that maybe it has died off. The lizard was never really popular in pop culture anyway.

The froglok, however, has so many bad names, so many froooaaakkks, so much irritation that still has a huge draw for the tards.

I had not heard it confirmed (or was that it?), but as Rab said, it does nto take much thought to see that the Sundered Mountains newbie area and the long distance of its translocator as a deterrent to as much of this as possible. OOC can be done with any character, the really annoying tard "roleplaying" has to be done in person in a popular place... something unlikely in Sadri Malath.

I am thankful that the opertunity to play my favored race is still here, and was not simply removed. I have a Taldorian of each class they are able to undertake, although my Cleric and Wizard have not yet leveled to two. My warrior is less than 10, if I recall. I am concentrating on my Paladin while I await my guild to match levels with my shaman. I may take another stab at two boxing if I can catch him up.

I do not have a great deal of love for those that attempt to ruin things for others for no reason other than for the sake of doing it. I take great offense when such actions affect me. If this is spiteful, so be it and I shall wear the badge proudly.

Pointless, it is not. Sundered Mountains being so difficult because it wasn't well thought out, was slapped together, and none one will do anythign about it because it is just an underused newbie zone will make someone stuck in it mad. Sundered Mountains being extremely difficult because it is esspecially calcuated to be so... because it is your test of worthiness... because it is the only thing between you being even able to play that race... that is a thing of pride. Knowing the difference in the two means a great deal, and is not pointless.

Debatable? Normally, I post in extreme length laying out every point I wish to make, every counterpoint that I can think of, and exactly why each counterpoint in invalid. I have, on occasion, even laid out counterpoints to the invalidation of the counterpoints, and listed why those counterpoints are also invalid. At the time that I post, I fully believe that I have assessed the situation from every possible angle and that my conclusion is the only sane conclusion that can be drawn. However, my mind is not closed... if it had been, then I would have felt no need to post. I have been shown where I made an error, I have been convinced of another side's arguement when they address a point or counterpoint in a manner that i did not forsee. However, doing so requires that you put forth an equal passion in the effort.

There also times that I can be inclined to drop a subject. I go my own way, still believing that I am right and the other party wrong, but I no longer discuss the subject, either in public or private. I do this only for those of which that i have developed a level of respect.

In this manner, I suppose everythign that I say is debatable.

This is the long version... does this suffice better than the shorter version listed above?

As for a role playing perspective, I am a Taldorian that has hatched after the destruction of the Lands of Magic. This is because I started playing AFTER the destruction of the lands of magic. The people of Sadri Malath lament the loss of their home. The Taldorian have no great love for the other races of Dalaya. Naturally, those born after would blame the other races for the destruction of their homes. I do nto knwo that I heard, or listened when I heard, the exact reasoning. This works out for me because fits with my character. But, since there is nothing I can actually DO about it, I just try to get on.

Still, no, tard score probably does not fit with a shaman, a taldorian, or even the in game Mogger.

Finally, no, when I created the name Mogger, I was not thinking of Frogger. The connection did not occur to me, the name was first used in Planetside. If the name puts me in the same place as the tard scores, then I am willing to change it. I am sure there is a combination of Mog and two more letters I do nto have already used somewhere.

Alright, I already tried to get someone to escort me through Splitpaw, but I was online in the morning EST and no one
was around there with less than 90 people online at the time *sigh* Just seems silly to me that I hit level 6 and
I am screwed to either log on with another toon, or go do something else. A translocator there for the newbies
would be a great addition IMHO ;)

The obvious choice would be to zone into Black Burrow (bind yourself before zoning in with /cmd bind), and since there is often someone there, you can:

a) Ask for a kind person to get you through (takes 15 seconds to get from one zone line to the other for someone who knows the way)

b) Ask to join a group (people should begin to hunt in there around level 8-9 anyways)

Or if Black Burrow is empty too, try to study the map, then run. If you die (remember you bound yourself just outside!), try it again (since you already got XP dept now, it cannot get worse). Try until you succeed. Once you zoned into Centaur Hills, bind yourself again (if you leave the tunnel, there are two gnolls you will run into, but you can't see them from the inside).

The HUGE advantage most players have, is that they know somewhat the zones from EQ Live, and I bet if you get a look at http://www.eqatlas.com/blackburrow1map.html you'll see it's POSSIBLE to get from one zone line to the other ("Everf." to "Qey. Hil.") even at level 6 (strafe-running and jumping will help).

Good luck!

The most important thing to remember when traveling in the bitter cold is to have dry socks and decent footware. Leather booties should be sufficient.

Once the frostbite set's in, kiss your feet good bye :sadf:

If your still stuck, look me up in game and I'll come help you out of that frozen prison. :)

Thanks guys.. a nice <3 drood finally ported me out. However, I am now fighting in BB and didn't realize it would have been so easy to run through. whoops
