A couple weeks ago I found out by accident that using /guildinvite on a member of your guild when you're a recruiter or higher officer in the guild raises them one rank in the guild. I had the wrong person targeted with an officer character, and ended up promoting my other toon when I shouldn't have been able to. Naturally within moments both of my characters were leaders, and several of us were all cracking up at the spam of promotion messages.
I don't think this is a deliberate feature, though. I didn't report it before now because I really didn't care... but as the Buttercream Gang seems to have folded, I'm left with three leader characters (both mains and an alt), and if I want to leave I'm going to have to create 3 newbie characters to whom to transfer leadership. I would imagine that it's a fairly easy fix, and not a big problem. I just wanted to bring it up in case the devs weren't already aware of it.
