Good spellcaster starting class?

Im just wondering, Whats a good starting class that will be effecient in partying and soloing in a balanced way, because i dont want to be a loner, but i cant lvl with friends all the time. Also i want to be a type of magic class. Can you give your opinion?

The best place to ask this kind of question is in the classes & gear section (moving topic there for you).

To answer your question, I'd go with a magician or a necromancer, but I play a mage so I'm kinda biased I guess. =P

I'd say necromancer (Besides the fact that I play one :p).

They bring a vast utility to the group, yet they remain great soloers. If you want a class that's good solo but also desirable in a group go Necro.

Also don't forget the priest's magic.

A Druid can solo pretty well and it is very useful in groups also if you like more to heal than to do damage.

In the end, imho, all classes are cool, just take a look at SoD Wiki and choose the one you like most for his abilities and spells :).

druids are tempting for someone coming from your perspective, but i'd shy away from them. Until you've got really sexy gear and stuff, you're just too far behind on heals to compare to the immense efficiency of a cleric, and your DPS isn't fantastic at that point either, and utility is nice, but kinda meh.

I'd suggest using a class that you can really focus in one direction on that has points valuble in any situation, such as the mage/necro/chanter.

chanter soloing is probably the most uber thing for mid-level xp in the game.

Yeah! What Aaubert says is also very cool and fun to play. Also you will be greatly love in groups.

Thought about a Shaman?

I am realy loving my shaman abilite to solo, plus his HUGE bonus he brings to a group/duo.

Strong dots, Strong Heals, Strong Debuffs, Strong Buffs.. and at 34 you get a pet that can take a few licks and keep on ticking.

hmm ive been trying out the classes and im going to try this "enchanter" the othere classes seem too... too.. simple.. easy to handle.. I hear enchanters are complicated. Just how i like it. Good lvling and group love? Just my kind of thing. :toot:

I find this a load of crap.

My druid did a majority of its 1-60 life solo or duo'd with some grouping here and there.

I was NEVER behind in healing capability in a group situation , I even have had spots given to me over a cleric.
Also that is with crappy gear (Me at 60 )
Maybe if were comparing high end raid quality characters , then there would definitively be a difference , but for the casual player I see no problem.

Also last time i checked gaming was about fun , not being paranoid that a cleric has more efficient heals then your class , or the fact that shamans can have obscene amounts of mana due to cannibalize. The only time I ever got bummed out on my druid about anything in game was when they removed the Magic lands , which completely screwed my chance of getting that cannibal clicky; I still idolize people with it.

Unless something was drastically changed since the last time I have played , druids are a fine class.

As for DPS, there are decent dot's and sub par nukes, while in certain areas you can completely dominate with your animal charms, solo or in a group (Paw).

As for chanter soloing , i only got mine to 46 but the druid was much easier to solo , charming or not.
On that the charming results were much better due to the buffs the druid can provide to it and the heals, where in the chanter has some haste to give and that is all i can recall.

I would like the valuable points of these classes in a group/solo over a druid please, I can think of some but id rather hear the whole story, I also removed enchanter from that quote as I can agree they offer alot that a druid cant :).

As for going with enchanter : Its a fine choice , just be prepared to die alot, and to be blamed by jerkfaces who you group with who decide everything is the enchanters fault when a mez breaks/gets resisted and everyone whipes because the person who should have evac'ed spent all his mana.

As for mage and necro ; they are great solo classes, I knew luas when he was level 28? and recall him spending a grand deal of time leveling in kaladim (Hi luas), and of course this was solo.

Honestly : Give each class a go and decide for yourself , letting others choose for you is silly.
Furthermore from what you have said it sounds like you only experienced the early levels, which in my opinion are easy to handle no matter what class you are. Enchanter might seem different to you because honestly they are the only class ive ever felt that just plain sucked until 20+.

Also if she still plays Maimai will tell you quite a bit about how imbalanced enchanters used to be. I would say charming still is but thats not the point of this thread.

+ you get to nerf the hell out of everything which is pretty fun :D
